The Director, Business Initiatives leads the strategic and day-to-day business needs to enable the success of Global Wealth Management (GWM) and Global Insurance. They lead a team providing direct support to the Group Head, Global Wealth Management and SVP, Global Wealth Transformation and Growth Strategy. In this role, they are a key member of the Global Wealth Transformation & Growth Strategy leadership team, collaborating to develop and prioritize business initiatives that support departmental priorities and the general management of the team's initiatives.
The successful candidate will provide strategic guidance and support special projects, communications, and reporting. As a subject matter expert of the GWM business, this role is a key liaison for the Group Head, the GWM and Global Insurance Executive Committee, its business heads, enterprise strategy teams, and committees.

- Contribute to the development and evolution of the Global Wealth Transformation and Growth Strategy
- Support special mergers & acquisitions (M&A) project strategy, communications, and reporting
- Track the progress of the annual strategic plan and recommend strategies to realign initiatives with fiscal year financial outlook
- Effectively partner with key stakeholders including GWM business heads, COO, Business Risk Management, Finance, Enterprise Strategy and HR to develop, review and update initiatives to support the GWM growth strategy across each function
- Act as the primary contact for the GWM Executive Office for internal and external stakeholders
- Provide direction on behalf of the Group Head with minimal oversight to support business, Operating Committee, CEO and Board requests
- Support GWM financial analysis, planning, and reporting
- Provide analysis to support decision-making on major business initiatives and develop management reports of key metrics for the leadership team and partner with Finance and GWM Operations leaders to drive support cost allocations approvals during fiscal planning processes
- Lead and direct multi-business projects and cross-business committees, acting as the primary GWM contact and business stakeholder for enterprise projects, employee engagement, and platform rollouts to advocate for an "all-GWM" perspective and ensure executive requirements are aligned with new or evolving initiatives
- Lead the creation and delivery of all reporting and presentation content for senior leadership, including owning the reporting process for the Group Head (GWM scorecard, KPIs, staffing) and creating content for updates to the CEO, Operating Committee, and the BNS Board of Directors
- Manage, plan, and execute key strategic events and initiatives, including GWM Executive Committee meetings, quarterly strategy offsites, and the rollout of enterprise special projects, while also coordinating with the Operating Committee Executive Support Team
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We'd love to work with you if you have:
- 10+ years of financial services and management experience required
- A firm understanding of the firm's Risk Management appetite, framework, and related policies
- Expert analytic and problem-solving capabilities
- Exceptional presentation skills
- Excellent planning and analytical skills
- The ability to take calculated, enterprising risks supported by clear rationale (e.g., industry trends, competitive research, and positive cost/benefit analysis)
- Strong negotiating, influencing and communication skills (written and oral) to influence external stakeholders, such as investors, regulators and the community, as well as all levels of the organization
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills that facilitate a positive and effective team environment at all levels of the organization
- Problem solving skills, organizational and administrative agility
- High credibility with the bank's senior management team and with business line and other functional area management teams
