The Joint Economic Development Initiative (JEDI) is dedicated to supporting Indigenous peoples in reaching their full economic development potential through advocacy and networking. Our team currently has a need for a Finance Assistant to assist with various accounting/financial management and operations activities. Reporting to the Finance and Operations Manager, the ideal candidate has experience working in a financial role, ideally in a non-profit organization, strong organizational, and detail-oriented skills, is self-directed, and enjoys working closely with colleagues in a team-oriented environment.
Responsibilities:
- Accounts receivable/payables, purchasing, payroll, remittances and other financial functions including the posting of journal entries utilizing financial management software.
- Preparation of cheques for various purposes including supplier and payroll-related disbursements.
- Monitoring and reporting in accordance with Accounting Standards for Not-For-Profit Organizations (ASNPO) and/or the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and fulfilling the specific reporting requirements of JEDI's various funding partners.
- Preparation of weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and reports for JEDI projects and the organization as a whole.
- Preparation of financial records for annual audit.
- Ensure that financial processes and guidelines and the associate forms and documents are adhered to and kept current.
- Contribute to proposal and budget development.
- Ensuring the protection of confidentiality and sensitive financial and personal information.
- Assist with office operations and facilities activities.
- Other related administrative/financial duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of a relevant post-secondary institution with specialization in financial accounting administration and/or office management or an equivalent combination of education, training and work experience.
- Knowledge of First Nations communities, culture and social concerns. Preference will be given to qualified candidates of Indigenous descent.
- Competency in finance-related software with proficiency using Excel and Sage 50 considered a definite asset.
- Meticulous attention to detail, analytical, organized with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.
- An understanding of funding programs and reporting requirements, especially those of provincial and federal government funding programs, are additional strong assets.
- Proven ability to provide sound advice and customer service to internal and external clients.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel as required.
- Satisfactory criminal background/vulnerable sector clearance and maintenance are required.
Salary range: $48,648 - $59,458 per annum
