As part of the Health and Safety team, the Safety Specialist role is responsible to assist the enterprise in living its values of "Safety at Heart" and "Care for Team". We are committed to the safety of every employee, contractor and member of the public through planning safety into the work; following the rules; being a leader in safety; reporting so we can all get better; having courage; and saying no to unsafe work.
Key functions include:
• Integrate safety into all PMO projects by embedding Health, Safety, and Environment (HSEE) standards in planning, tendering, and execution, and verifying contractor competencies in line with HSEE-03-19.
• Provide oversight of projects and contractors to ensure full compliance with NB Power's HSEE programs and standards, driving a strong safety culture and continuous improvement.
• Conduct audits and assessments to protect employees, contractors, and the public throughout all project phases, and actively contribute to Safety and Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings.
• Lead investigations of incidents and near misses, perform root cause analyses, and implement corrective and preventive actions to ensure lessons learned are captured and sustained.
Our ideal teammate will have:
• Bachelor's degree or Post-Secondary diploma in one of the following (those with their post-secondary diploma will require an additional two years of related work experience)
o Occupational Health and Safety
o Environmental Health
o Industrial Safety
In addition to:
• Eight years of experience in a Safety related role, including three years focused on safety auditing and incident investigation, plus additional experience delivering safety training programs on workplace practice/procedures and regulatory compliance, reviewing and writing Health & Safety policy/procedure development, and field safety observations.
• Basic computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Valid Class 5 Driver's License
• Willingness to travel and work across the province at various project sites
• Safety experience in an industrial setting would be considered an asset
• Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation or the ability to become designated within 12-months of hire-date would be an asset
An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.
An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.
