Position Overview
MedNexus Health Laboratory is offering a unique opportunity for a dedicated Medical Laboratory Technologist Supervisor to join our growing team on a full-time permanent basis. This role is ideal for a professional who enjoys both hands-on laboratory work and supervisory responsibilities.
As the Medical Laboratory Technologist Supervisor, you will play a key role in establishing and overseeing a high-quality diagnostic laboratory within an integrated, patient-centered healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations & Supervision
- Maintain a strong hands-on presence by performing and overseeing laboratory testing.
- Oversee daily laboratory operations to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and timely turnaround of results.
- Coordinate specimen collection, processing, testing, reporting, and quality control.
- Maintain the laboratory quality management system.
- Manage inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment.
- Monitor workflows, address barriers, and optimize resources.
- Support new program implementation and evolving testing needs.
- Collaborate closely with Nurse Practitioners and clinical staff to support integrated patient care.
Team Development
- Participate in recruitment and training of laboratory staff as the team grows.
- Provide daily supervision, mentoring, and technical guidance to laboratory personnel.
- Contribute to employee performance evaluations with constructive feedback.
- Partner with management to coordinate departmental planning and workload distribution.
- Foster a collaborative, respectful, and patient-focused laboratory culture.
- Promote continuous improvement, accountability, and adherence to quality and safety standards.
Quality, Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.
- Oversee daily quality control, validation, and troubleshooting of laboratory testing and equipment.
- Ensure laboratory equipment is properly validated, maintained, and calibrated.
- Monitor and enhance quality and safety practices.
- Enforce safety protocols, manage hazardous waste, and ensure proper chemical storage.
Experience/Education
- Graduate from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology program (CSLMS).
- Must be registered and in good standing with the New Brunswick Society of Medical Laboratory Technologists (NBSMLT).
- A minimum of three to five (3-5) years' experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist required, experience in hematology and chemistry is considered a strong asset.
- Prior experience in the troubleshooting, validation, and calibration of laboratory equipment is highly desirable.
- Prior experience with EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems, Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), and other software's such as Microsoft Office is considered an asset.
- Leadership experience and ability to mentor and coach staff is considered a strong asset.
- Quality Management Certificate is considered an asset.
Qualifications
- Skilled and self-motivated Medical Laboratory Technologist with demonstrated leadership abilities and a strong commitment to quality patient care.
- Proven ability to coordinate workflow, manage multiple tasks, and prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong conflict resolution skills and excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Highly adaptable and flexible in changing environments.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in English is essential due to operational requirements.
- Self-starter with the ability to take initiative and thrive in a start-up environment.
- Strong commitment to patient safety, accuracy, and continuous quality improvement.
Schedule & Location:
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, with occasional evening and Saturday shifts as required. Statutory holidays are excluded.
- The final schedule will be determined in collaboration with the employer, taking operational requirements into consideration.
- The successful applicant will be expected to work in person in Moncton, New Brunswick.
