Mechanical Engineer

In this role, you will perform the duties of a Mechanical Engineer specializing in the area of generation operational support and engineering as they relate to the Power Supply generation assets. This involves all aspects of design and support including root cause analysis of major trips, faults or generating unit anomalies, evaluation of abnormal unit and system behaviors with respect to asset operation, developing technical standards and engineering documentation. You will monitor the effectiveness of the Maintenance Program, monitor performance of equipment, investigate recurring maintenance problems and other incidents, and recommend modifications and/or upgrading.
Key Responsibilities:
You will join a multi-discipline team working in an operational support environment providing assistance to the various Operation entities within the Non-Regulated group. This will include such activities as:
- Safety first - pro-actively participates in a vibrant safety culture, taking the lead in ensuring their safety and the safety of others
- Completion of detailed outage investigations;
- Working closely with front line maintenance crews to troubleshoot issues with various equipment;
- Management of engineering consultant contracts;
- Completion of corrective work orders assigned via the work management system;
- Participate in the execution of capital or operating projects as required;
- Developing in house engineering standards;
- Assessment of new technologies to determine the optimum solution for mechanical problems;
- Regular travel to the Churchill Falls and Muskrat Falls, generation stations;
What We're Looking For:
- You will have good verbal and written communication skills.
- You will have relevant experience in the design, commissioning and troubleshooting of mechanical systems in general with emphasis on hydro generation plants in a power utility environment or equivalent.
- You will have worked with computer applications related to the mechanical discipline as applied to electric utilities.
- You will have proven communication, teamwork and leadership skills.
What You'll Need:
- You will have graduated from a recognized university with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and have a minimum of five (5) years' experience in the Electrical Utility industry and in a plant engineering role.
- You are eligible or a member of the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL).
- You must possess and maintain an appropriate driver's license. Willingness to travel to site locations is required.
