Night Watchman

POSITION: Night Watchman (2 positions)

RESPONSIBLE TO: Facility and Maintenance Manager

STATUS: Permanent Part Time (Fte 0.7)

HRS OF WORK: Nights (10pm-6am)

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance

START DATE: ASAP

POSTING DATE: January 6, 2026

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Night Watchman will perform a wide variety of tasks which collectively ensure the security of the residents, staff, visitors and volunteers of St. Vincent's Nursing Home as well as facility and grounds. In addition the incumbent will monitor the operation of the physical plant and will perform other related duties.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:

1. Proven experience in building and grounds security. Excellent observation skills and a vigilant attitude required.

2. Aptitude for observation of mechanical equipment and the ability to interpret fluctuations or interruptions in service and manage according to policies and procedures provided by the Facility/Maintenance Manager.

3. Basic understanding and/or aptitude of principles of various technical vocations (plumbing, electricity, heating, etc.)

4. Basic computer skills including working knowledge of Windows.

5. Proven ability to physically and mentally perform duties. Work, at times, is fairly vigorous: lift and carry full bags of trash, recyclables, etc; operate snow removal equipment as required, including 40kg bags of salt/melting compound; climb ladders, visual acuity and depth perception as well as excellent hearing are requirements.

6. Must be receptive to adjusting schedule and/or shifts to accommodate emergency or special situations, or requirements including, but not limited to, sick time, vacation, emergency call back, storms, etc.

7. Must be able to work under a variety of conditions and expect interruptions consistent with operation of facility.

8. Must be able to follow written and verbal directions.

9. Well groomed, neat and clean in appearance.

10. Able to work independently.

11. Must be caring and respectful.

12. Ability to work well with other staff members in various departments.
