The New Brunswick Legal Aid Services Commission (NBLASC) is seeking an individual to join the Public Trustee Services division in Fredericton as an Intake Officer.

Public Trustee Services offer representation and decision-making supports to adults who are not able to make financial or personal care decisions for themselves. Public Trustee services also administer the estates of deceased and missing persons and protects the financial interests of children in certain matters. What you will do
Reporting to the Public Trustee, you will be responsible for a wide range of duties and will be privy to confidential information inherent to this position. Your duties will include:
- Responsible for inputting client information and verifying systems/applications in assessing eligibility;
- Review, evaluate, and process new Public Trustee (PT) intake applications and follow up with referring parties to ensure file is complete;
- Open and maintain Aegis and hard copy files;
- Open and maintain Practice Manager files and hard copy files as required;
- Locate next of kin by using resources (Ancestory.ca, vital statistics, social medias, etc.) to gain approval for the PT to act on behalf of the client;
- Contact next of kin and explain services, court process, and answer any questions regarding our office and the services we provide;
- Liaise with heir locators as necessary;
- Provide the contact information of located individuals to the legal team or financial team;
- Search for next of kin in Estates files while ensuring that the guidelines of the Devolution of Estates Act are being met.
- Answer phone and email inquiries regarding the services of the PT;
- Open, sort and log all incoming mail and courier packages;
- Create documents, letters, memos, and general correspondence as directed;
Who you are
Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:
Need to have (Essential qualifications and skills)
- Completion of post-secondary training in a related discipline;
- A minimum 3 years of related experience;
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability.
Applicants must clearly demonstrate the essential qualifications to be given further consideration. Please ensure that preferred language for assessment is identified on your resume.
Nice to have (Asset qualifications):
- Experience in a supervisory capacity
- Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, etc.), particularly Excel.

Wage
$1,798 - $2,180 biweekly - CUPE NBLASC Administrative Series Level I
