Join Dr. Roxanne Ouellet's visionary team in launching a multidisciplinary health clinic and certified laboratory. As the Medical Laboratory Technologist Supervisor, you will play a key role in establishing and overseeing a high-quality diagnostic laboratory within an integrated, patient-centered healthcare setting.

The MedNexus Health laboratory offers a unique opportunity for a Medical Laboratory Technologist who enjoys both hands-on laboratory work and supervisory responsibilities, and who is excited by the opportunity to help build a new laboratory from the ground up.

Position

Employment Type: Full-time/part-time, Permanent
Schedule: The work hours will be Monday to Friday, with occasional evenings and Saturdays, excluding statutory holidays.
Note that the schedule may slightly vary to meet operational requirements.

Main Responsibilities

Laboratory start-up

The first few months will focus on laboratory setup and accreditation, followed by full operational laboratory supervision once the facility is open. This role requires flexibility during the start-up phase and tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Planning and implementation of laboratory services, workflows, and physical setup while working closely with a private laboratory consultant.
  • Assist with selection, validation, and implementation of laboratory equipment and analyzers.
  • Support with licensing, accreditation, and regulatory approval processes in accordance with the national laboratory standards.
  • Support with development, implementation, and maintenance of laboratory SOPs, policies, and quality manuals.
  • Collaborate with vendors, service providers, and IT/LIS teams during the start-up phase.

Laboratory Operations & Supervision

  • Perform and oversee laboratory testing with a strong hands-on presence.
  • Oversee daily laboratory operations, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and timely turnaround of results.
  • Coordinate specimen collection, processing, testing, reporting, and quality control.
  • Ensure proper inventory management of laboratory supplies.
  • Work closely with Nurse Practitioners and clinical staff to support integrated patient care.

Team Development

  • As the team grows, assist with recruitment, onboarding, and training of laboratory staff.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision, mentoring, and technical guidance to laboratory personnel.
  • Foster a collaborative, respectful and patient-focused laboratory culture.
  • Identify training needs and support continuing education and competency development.
  • Promote continuous improvement, accountability, and adherence to quality and safety standards.

Quality, Compliance & Safety

  • Actively participate in laboratory quality and compliance activities.
  • Perform and oversee daily quality control, validation, and troubleshooting of laboratory testing and equipment.
  • Lead proficiency testing processes, including sample handling, result submission, review, and corrective follow-up.
  • Oversee the implementation and monitoring of infection prevention, biosafety, and workplace safety practices within the laboratory.
  • Maintain and review laboratory documentation, SOPs, logs, and quality records.
  • As the team grows, ensure all laboratory staff maintain required certifications, competencies, and continuing education.
  • Take a lead role in preparing for inspections and accreditation reviews, including hands-on support during site visits and follow-up actions.

Administrative & Operational Support

  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, documentation, and reporting.
  • Utilize and support Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and EMR integration.
  • Track key laboratory performance indicators such as turnaround times, error rates, and quality metrics.
  • Provide input on workflow optimization, cost control, and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a skilled and motivated Medical Laboratory Technologist with leadership abilities and a passion for quality patient care.

  • Graduate from a recognized Medical Laboratory Technology program and CSLMS certification.
  • Member in good standing with the New Brunswick Society of Medical Laboratory Technologists (NBSMLT).
  • Minimum 3 years of laboratory experience. Previous senior or supervisory experience is a strong an asset.
  • Knowledge of laboratory quality management systems, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems, Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), and other software's such as Microsoft Excel, Word, etc.
  • Demonstrated communication, problem-solving, organizational, time management and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and adapt in a start-up environment.
  • Commitment to patient safety, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
