This service area is a public service offered to those engaging in a development, construction, renovation, demolition, or change of occupancy project within City limits.

Under the direction of the Building Inspector or designate, the position is responsible for conducting plans examinations and progress inspections pertaining to plumbing installations. The position is also responsible for the administration of the Plumbing By-Law. This position will, on an as-needed basis, determine compliance with a variety of property-related by-laws.

The incumbent in this position will:

(1)review plans and drawings relating to plumbing permit applications to ensure conformance to the National Plumbing Code of Canada and Plumbing By-law,

(2)determine if work related to the design approved during the permitting process is being completed in accordance with the approved design,

(3)determine if properties comply with a variety of property-related by-laws, and

(4)work with individuals/property owners to achieve compliance with these standards before more corrective actions are determined to be required.

This position works collaboratively in a team environment to deliver excellent customer service while meeting departmental service delivery targets.

Essential Qualifications:

Must have a Journeyman Level in plumbing, a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Systems, and a Class 5 Driver's License is required. Must have or be able to obtain certification in backflow prevention and cross connection control through a recognized agency.

Must be able to communicate and deal with many and varied types of people in an effective manner under sometimes difficult conditions.

Ability to prepare clear, concise and accurate reports on inspections made. Must be able to read, understand, apply and convey data derived from plans, blue-prints, maps, specifications, by-laws, codes, standards, proposals and estimates.

The successful applicant may be eligible to participate in a Flexible Time Options Program which includes the option of working a 4 or 5-day work week, subject to business requirements.
