What you will do
The Department of Justice and Public Safety is seeking an individual to join the regional operations as Conservation Sergeant in Region 2. As a member of the regional conservation enforcement team, the successful candidate will be responsible to provide overall management of the district enforcement program. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • managing district conservation staff through the development and implementation of an annual conservation work plan;
  • approving all district enforcement files;
  • supervising district conservation staff including managing employee performance, staff development, and ensuring proper scheduling;
  • participating in human resources and labor relations issues;
  • ensuring staff compliance with Acts, Regulations, Policies and Collective Agreements;
  • monitoring the district conservation budget;
  • managing district enforcement assets;
  • attending court as required;
  • maintaining reports;
  • participating on various committees;
  • liaising with and assisting other law enforcement agencies;
  • carrying out other related duties as required.

Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:

Need to have (essential skills and qualifications)

  • Diploma from a recognized forest resource or wildlife technical program or a Bachelor of Science in a natural resource related field;
  • Successful completion of a recognized conservation enforcement program or successful completion of DPS administered sidearm course and control tactics training course;
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of related post-diploma experience, five (5) of which must include enforcement duties;
  • Three (3) years supervisory experience;
  • Possession of a valid class 5 driver's license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered. Candidates must clearly demonstrate the essential qualifications to be given further consideration.

Written and spoken competence in English and French is required, please state your language capability

Operational Requirements
Must be prepared to:

  • Attend leadership training;
  • Carry and utilize control tactics tools
  • Perform field work/patrols, shift work onnights and weekends and respond to after-hours calls;
  • Work alone with minimal supervision;
  • Carry out physically demanding tasks;
  • Work outside in inclement weather on all types of terrain.

The successful candidate must maintain current DPS sidearm and control tactics qualifications.

The successful candidate must successfully complete:

  • A Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) vulnerable sector reference, a criminal history clearance and security clearance checks.
  • An approved psychological suitability assessment as required.

Wage
$2,539 - $3,171 Bi-weekly + $83.23 Bi-weekly enforcement premium, depending on education and experience.
