The Health & Safety team develops and implements programs and processes to minimize the health/safety risk of activities performed, and materials and services used at the Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station (PLNGS).
As part of the Health & Safety Team, the Occupational Health Nurse role is responsible to ensure the total health and safety of employees, focusing on creating a psychologically and physically healthy environment. Acting as an advocate for employees, the health nurse is responsible for the development, promotion, implementation, and measurement of a wide spectrum of total health programs aimed at educating and supporting employees, reducing preventable illnesses and drug utilization and maximizing the effective reintegration of employees into the workforce.
Key Responsibilities include:
• Providing medical aid to employees and supporting walk in clients.
• Providing health care services.
• Developing and implementing total health strategies and programs.
• Providing confidential assessments and facilitation of special needs (ergonomics).
• Clinical nursing - various screening (hearing, immunization, hypertension, glucose, etc.), first aid, health monitoring, emergency care, crisis intervention.
• Identifying and reporting on trends and evaluating effectiveness of wellness programs and initiatives.
• Conducting and reporting on relevant research (i.e. hazardous workplace conditions/exposures).
• Maintaining compliance with applicable legislation and company policies/procedures.
• Also working closely with the Case Disability Specialist in supporting WorkSafe NB Files, Case Management and reintegration of employees in the workforce and reporting and documenting on workplace injuries ad attendance Management.
Other conditions of employment:
• Radiation Protection Training.
• Completion of internal training on site at Point Lepreau and at the Head Office location.
• Willingness to work in proximity to radiation.
The ideal candidate will have:
• Bachelor of Nursing OR Registered Nurse.
• Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
• Minimum 5 years' experience beyond graduation in the nursing field
Candidates possessing any of the following would be considered an asset:
• Minimum 3 years of industrial experience
• Minimum 1 year experience in Disability Case Management
• Occupational Health Nurse License or a Specialty in occupational Health & Wellness, Diploma in Disability Management (ex. NIDMAR or Equivalent).
An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.
Due to security requirements at Canadian Nuclear facilities, the successful candidate will require a Site Access Security Clearance which includes verification of background information, references, a Criminal Record Name Check and a Canadian Security Intelligence Service security recommendation.
An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.
