Protection & Control Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Protection and Control Engineer provides essential technical leadership for the safe and reliable operation of Soldier's Pond Terminal Station and the Muskrat Falls Generating Station. Core responsibilities include:
  • Oversight, configuration, and validation of protection and control systems for generation, transmission, other generation assets;
  • Real-time engineering support for system events, fault response, operational troubleshooting, and switching activities;
  • Review, approval, and analysis of relay settings, maintenance test results, and engineering change requests;
  • Execution of compliance-driven protection maintenance, documentation, and reporting obligations;
  • Support for commissioning, outage planning, asset reliability initiatives, and continuous improvement of protection schemes;
  • Providing technical guidance to operations, maintenance, and project teams to ensure safe work practices and system integrity.

What We're Looking For:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster effective working relationships with members of various teams;
  • Excellent analytical skills and problem solving abilities.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor of Engineering Degree - Electrical Engineering preferred; Process or Mechatronics Engineering may also be considered; an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered;
  • Eligibility for membership in the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL) as either a professional member, engineer-in-training, or limited license holder (Eng. L.) within the discipline of Electrical Engineering: Instrumentation, Control Systems, and Protection;
  • Experience in the design, implementation, and troubleshooting of protection and control equipment and systems;
  • Experience in preparing specifications, schematics, and wiring diagrams;
  • Experience in an assortment of controller and HMI programming languages would be an asset;
  • Experience in the integration of various communication protocols would be an asset.
