About the Opportunity

• Plans, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive therapeutic recreation program plan focusing on physical, social, cultural, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual needs of the patients.
• Using a variety of interview and observational techniques obtains all necessary information related to the therapeutic recreation assessment; addresses all recreation therapy referrals from the interdisciplinary team.
• Develops individual treatment plans with patients/Substitute Decision Makers based on assessment results, applying facilitation techniques to assist clients in achieving identified goals.
• Maintains accurate patient participation records; analyzes data to assist in the development of appropriate programs.
• Demonstrates effective communication strategies and skills when relating to patients, family, and team members.

About You
In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:

• Undergraduate degree in Therapeutic Recreation with certification in the field of Therapeutic Recreation
• Minimum of one-year combined experience in the delivery of recreation in health care
• Knowledge of techniques and equipment needed for a variety of recreation programs used in a therapeutic setting.
• Strong computer literacy skills (including word processing, spreadsheet and database software).
• Certified or eligible to be certified as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification
• Member of the Nova Scotia Therapeutic Recreation Association
• Basics Food Safety Training/ Food Handlers Course
• Proof of valid CPR and First Aid certification required
• Ability to provide a clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check upon hire
