What is the opportunity?

The Senior Manager, Immigration is a leader on Global Mobility's Senior Management team. This role oversees a team, and reports to the Senior Director, Head of Global Mobility.

In addition to working as part of the leadership team, the Senior Manager, Immigration will implement best practices immigration planning, policy, compliance, risk management and advisory support to ensure business, employee and enterprise needs are proactively managed with minimal business disruption.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Coach and develop a high performing team of immigration professionals fostering a collaborative learning environment.

  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure adherence to immigration laws, policies, and procedures across jurisdictions (e.g., work permits, visas, permanent residency applications) while also managing risks for the enterprise and adhering to internal risk management requirements.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with HR Partners, Talent Acquisition, Employee Relations, internal and external counsel, and others to address immigration challenges, communicate changes, proactively plan and work to ensure smooth immigration support for all.

  • Vendor Management: Day-to-day management of immigration service providers to ensure quality of service and cost-effectiveness aligning with contract and SLA's.

  • Data Management & Technology: Work to improve utilization, dashboards, insights and case management tools to ensure data accuracy and timely updates to employees and stakeholders.

  • Policy Development: Create and update internal standardized immigration support policies to reflect enterprise support, regulatory changes and organizational needs.

  • Audit and Reporting: Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance and prepare reports for leadership or regulatory bodies and make recommendations or lead remediation efforts if needed.

  • Process Management & Optimization: Recommend and implement process optimization to ensure compliance and workflow automation limiting manual work enabling team to take on more complex work.

Skills and Qualifications

  • LLB or undergraduate degree in law or relevant field.

  • Communication skills (written and verbal) in English and French.

  • 7+ years' experience working in a regulated and / or large global enterprise in the fields of employee relations, HR, global mobility, in-house legal or in-house business immigration.

  • Demonstrated experience leading business immigration or related mobility compliance for a large complex organization.

  • Experience and interest in leading and developing a team.

  • Experience with managing and optimizing immigration data using internal HR systems and external vendor tools.

  • Strong organization skills; ability to prioritize; independent leader and team player with passion for business immigration.

  • Self-learner, open to change and making improvements to programs that will deliver operational excellence.

  • An ability to understand, communicate and apply legal requirements in a complex, regulated environment to ensure optimal balance between managing organization and regulatory risk with business needs.

  • Proactively stay updated with changes to immigration impacting the function, recommend and implement ways to manage or communicate as required.

  • Reliable, responsive, consultative and practical approach able to problem solve and work towards solutions in a timely manner.
