With the anticipation of opening a new building in March 2026, we are searching for a Physiotherapist to join our Shannex Transitional Health Services Limited team providing transitional care services at West Bedford Transitional Health in West Bedford, Nova Scotia.
Through an innovative partnership with Nova Scotia Health (NSH), Shannex proudly operates the province's first transitional health facility in West Bedford. This facility provides specialized care for NSH patients in the central zone who no longer require hospital care but need additional support and services before safely returning home or to their community.

About the Opportunity
- Assesses, diagnoses, and treats patients in a tertiary care setting who present with actual or potential impairment, pain, functional limitations or disabilities. Physiotherapy assessment involves obtaining a detailed medical history, performing specific and standardized tests and evaluation procedures to determine a physical diagnosis.
- Plans intervention strategies by promoting active involvement of the patient, family, or caregiver in establishing physiotherapy goals which are based on assessment findings, prognosis, and evidence-based practice. Selected interventions are implemented to achieve and maintain optimal health fitness and function, encourage self-management, manager identified impairments and disabilities and relieve or manager pain.
- Develops individualized treatment plans based on clinical records, observation, or referral; confers with interdisciplinary staff regarding an overall treatment plan for patients.
- Maintains an inventory of physiotherapy equipment and supplies.
- Participates in continuing education to maintain credentials and increase expertise and knowledge.
- Oversee the full recruitment process for new members of the team.
- Ensure new team members are orientated and trained in all departmental standards.
- Manages the professional development of the team.
- Holds regular departmental meetings and team talks.
- Creates and/or contributes to the health record by documenting a patient's history, assessment finding, diagnosis, treatment plan, outcome measures, goals, modifications, progressions and responses to treatment, and discharge summary.
- Instructs Patients in the care and use of wheelchairs, braces, canes, and prosthetic devices.
- Communicates appropriately and effectively, through verbal, nonverbal, written, and electronic means, with the patients, Substitute Decision Makers, OT, PT, other members of the Wellness Team and interdisciplinary team.
- Explain treatment to patients as instructed.
- Additional duties as required
About You
- Master of Science in Physiotherapy;
- Current registration with the provincial College of Physiotherapists;
- Minimum of two years' clinical experience; previous experience in rehabilitation and geriatrics preferred;
- Previous experience in rehabilitation and geriatrics considered an asset
- Knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques, materials, equipment, and procedures used in physiotherapy and their application in specific cases.
- Knowledge of skeletal, muscular and neural anatomy and physiology as it applies to physiotherapy.
- Knowledge of the potential hazards involved in physiotherapy treatments and precautionary measures to be taken.
- Ability to plan and organize development of treatment goals and objectives.
- Ability to accurately observe and assess progress of patients being treated.
- Ability to instruct staff in the proper application of routine physiotherapy treatments.
- Previous experience working in long-term care, acute care and/or a comparable environment considered an asset
- A passion for the healthcare sector and/or ensuring seniors have access to quality accommodations, services and care.
- Ability to provide a clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check upon hire
