Title: Specialist, Domestic Emergency Response Unit

In this role, you will :
- Support the successful delivery of DERU programs and services by helping with coordination, assessments, communication, and overall operations.
- Assist in implementing specialized programs and initiatives that align with organizational goals and best practices.
- Contribute to planning by assessing needs, identifying gaps, and working with internal and external partners to find areas for collaboration or advocacy.
- Represent your area of expertise in meetings, presentations, and discussions with internal and external stakeholders.
- Share knowledge and provide hands-on support to colleagues and communities to strengthen understanding and improve DERU program delivery.
- Develop clear and useful materials and resources to explain the DERU program's approach, methods, and operations.
- Help ensure quality, compliance, and effective risk management within DERU program or service delivery.
- Stay informed about current trends and innovations, and look for ways to apply new knowledge to improve DERU program design and delivery.
What we are looking for :
- Qualifications include a minimum of 4-7 years experience and a 3-year college diploma or university degree in social services, psychology, emergency management, public administration, human services, social work, community or health studies and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience . May require technical certifications or professional designations.
- Experience applying community engagement principles, participatory approaches, and culturally safe practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and SharePoint is required.
- Ability to identify, investigate and analyze problems, identify root causes and risks, and apply technical, functional and organizational knowledge to develop solutions.
- Communication skills, diplomacy and empathy to interpret information and deliver advice, clarify client or stakeholder needs, offer solutions, and resolve escalations in new or somewhat sensitive situations.
- Ability to research, gathering information from credible sources, conducting literature reviews, and summarizing findings.
- Experience working with diverse communities, including Indigenous, rural, and underserved populations.
- Experience supporting program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Experience with monitoring and evaluation methods, including collecting and analyzing data to assess program impact.
Working Conditions
- This role is a response and operational profile that requires scheduled travel, deployment and in community in-person presence.
- Occasional requirement to lift up to 5kg in order to perform the requirements of the role.
- Occasional requirement for prolonged sitting with infrequent breaks in order to perform the requirements of the role.
- Occasional requirement for prolonged standing with infrequent breaks in order to perform the requirements of the role.
- Requires concentration, attentiveness, and attention to detail.
- The role includes fieldwork, deployment to emergency operations, and office-based work during non-deployment periods.
