Definition of work:
This is a professional nursing leadership position with responsibility for directing and coordinating primary care nursing, as Central Health?s model of care delivery; utilizing best practice and national standards of practice to develop, coordinate, and implement orientations for new staff and ongoing education for current staff; and acts as a clinical resource for other partners of the health care delivery team.
This position requires extensive experience and current knowledge of all aspects of Long-Term Care, Acute Care, and Emergency medicine, and follow-up services within the community. Reporting to the Manager of Site Operations, the candidate will work closely with patients/clients/residents and families, front-line staff, physicians, pharmacists, and other members of the health care team to ensure the provision of safe, quality care according to current best practice guidelines. The candidate will provide leadership, mentoring and support to nurses in an environment which promotes and enhances the strategic direction of the organization, aligned with the implementation of a quality person and family centered care approach.
This position is a member of various committees and is accountable for monitoring and improving key nursing performance indicators such as leadership rounding, nursing bedside handover, safety huddles, communication-white board completion and NOD compliance. The Registered Nurse IIC is responsible for developing policies and procedures as they relate to Long Term Care, Acute Care and Emergency medicine and ensuring staff are familiar with same.
The candidate functions as a team lead within the unit including participation and coordination of a collaborative approach to clinician rounds; maintaining a visible leadership presence on the nursing unit and ensuring delivery of patient education and teaching programs. The Registered Nurse IIC will assist in the development of nursing staff as part of succession planning and leadership support and be required to direct staff regarding care plans and nursing practice. The Registered Nurse IIC is a key role in the nursing unit structure and will support the facilitation of patient/client flow, ensure appropriate staffing and skill mix on the unit, and at times, provide direct nursing care.
The Registered Nurse IIC must demonstrate leadership competencies that are aligned with a LEADS framework and live the mission and values of Central Health. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.
Required qualifications:
? Undergraduate degree in nursing, or willingness to complete. Candidates without the undergraduate degree must complete a minimum of two courses per year.
? Current registration with the Association of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador.
? Minimum of five (5) years clinical experience, two (2) of which must have been within the last four (4) years in long term care, acute care or emergency.
? Current BLS certification for health care providers from the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
? Current Certification in the following: ACLS, PALS, CTAS, TNCC or willingness to complete the next available course.
? CNA certification in Gerontology or willingness to complete.
