Are you a strategic thinker with deep expertise in compensation design and governance? We're seeking a Lead of Total Compensation to drive the development and implementation of innovative, equitable, and data-driven compensation programs that support our workforce strategy, employee experience, and organizational maturity. You will provide technical leadership and strategic direction in areas such as salary structures, job evaluation, pay equity, and total rewards, ensuring alignment with CRC's priorities, culture, and values. This role offers the opportunity to lead complex projects, collaborate with internal stakeholders, and help shape the future of total rewards at the Canadian Red Cross.
In this role, you will :
- Lead the development, refinement and maintenance of equitable, transparent and compliant compensation and benefits programs, structures and solutions aligned with CRC's workforce strategy and business needs and compliant with legislation.
- Conduct research, market benchmarking, and analysis inform compensation and benefits decisions, program design and ongoing governance and evaluation.
- Oversee and maintain CRC's job architecture and job evaluation, chair the job evaluation committee, ensuring consistency, transparency, and alignment with organizational standards.
- Develop and maintain compensation policies, guidelines, education and tools to support consistent application across the organization and support People Leader and employee understanding.
- Partner with stakeholders including other People Services functions and finance to ensure compensation programs support recruitment, retention, and budgetary goals.
- Facilitate cross-functional workshops and consultations to gather requirements, validate solutions, and support adoption.
- Provide expert guidance and thought leadership to People Services colleagues and senior leaders on compensation-related matters.
- Apply project management methodologies to lead compensation initiatives from concept to execution, including timelines, budgets, and reporting.
- Develop change management, communication, and training plans to support program rollout and user adoption.
- Develop business cases, dashboards, and presentations for senior leadership to support decision-making and strategic planning.
- Develop and maintain accurate compensation reports, metrics, dashboards, and models to support data-driven decisions.
- Manage vendor relationships and oversee compensation related systems and tools.
- Ensure all solutions are documented and operationalized for seamless integration into People Services workflows.
- Stay informed on compensation trends, legislative changes, and best practices.
What we are looking for :
- Qualifications include a minimum of 8-12 years experience in compensation and a relevant 3 year college diploma or university degree.
- Advanced professional expertise in total compensation including total compensation strategy, benefits design, job evaluation, base and variable pay solutions, market analysis and regulatory compliance, alongside a broad understanding of the HR function and its domains.
- Proven track record of successfully leading high impact and complex enterprise wide HR or business initiatives requiring cross functional stakeholder management and alignment.
- Capable of delegating work and coordinating efforts among cross-functional team members to achieve goals without direct management accountability.
- Experience with program management concepts, project management and change management methodology and tools with the ability to coordinate multiple projects within tightly prescribed timelines.
- Proficiency in standard computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite), with the ability to work with additional relevant software applications.
- Ability to leverage data to evaluate needs, design programs and derive insights.
- Ability to identify complex problems, conduct deep analysis in unfamiliar areas, predict outcomes, and develop innovative, collaborative solutions by balancing technical inputs with strategic objectives.
- Communication and influencing skills to synthesize diverse and sometimes conflicting perspectives and find mutually beneficial solutions, often in sensitive or complex situations.
- Ability to demonstrate a high level of discretion and integrity to handle sensitive workforce and organizational information.
Working Conditions :
- The majority of work will be conducted from an office-like setting.
- Occasional domestic travel may be required
- Work requires the ability to work to multiple, conflicting deadlines.
