Canadian Maritime Engineering (CME) is a dynamic, multi-disciplinary organization specializing in marine repair, custom design, and fabrication. With 11 locations across Canada, including five in Nova Scotia, CME is a trusted leader in machining, welding, mechanical systems, and specialty coatings. CME's Dartmouth location is home to an overhead crane division, where they design and build custom lifting solutions for industrial and marine applications.
Meridia Recruitment Solutions is pleased to partner with CME in search of a Structural Engineer to join their team in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
Role Description
As the Structural Engineer, you will work closely with the overhead crane division and engineering department to prepare comprehensive designs, in process inspections, project management, estimating, and reporting. The majority of your time will be spent with the overhead crane division while providing support to marine-related projects as required.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Completing designs on overhead cranes to meet customer's requirements and applicable building codes.
- Completing lifting device designs and creating fabrication drawings.
- Conducting inspections on existing cranes and structures and provide repair suggestions when required.
- Working with the Overhead Crane division manager to estimate new projects.
- Completing site visits where required to obtain design measurements and perform inspections.
- Performing load testing and inspections on shipboard lifting equipment.
- Monitoring project progress and schedule on new crane builds.
- Assisting in marine-related projects that require structural input.
Your Qualifications
You are a professional engineer (P.Eng) with practical experience in structural design and construction. You have proficient skills in CAD programs as well as the Microsoft Office software suite. Your communication and collaboration abilities are strong, and your organizational skills allow you to effectively manage projects. Additionally, you must be able to obtain controlled goods and reliability clearance.
Your qualifications include:
- Post secondary education from a recognized university with a degree in engineering.
- P. Eng designation through Engineers Nova Scotia or the ability to obtain.
- Must be able to obtain controlled goods and reliability status with the Canadian DND.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project.
- 5+ years' experience in structural engineering or commercial building construction.
- Excellent project management skills.
- Fast learner with ability to work independently on projects.
- Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in overhead crane design and/or field management would be considered an asset.
