Gander Toyota, part of Steele Auto Group, is looking for a General Manager who is ready to lead with purpose, inspire a team, and elevate one of Newfoundland's most trusted automotive brands. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will work closely with every department and team member, supporting daily operations in sales, finance, service, and parts while shaping a culture built on communication, collaboration, and continuous improvement. It is an ideal opportunity for someone with experience who is also eager to learn and grow into a standout leader, someone who is ready to listen, absorb, coach, and bring positive energy into the dealership every day.
Compensation: Commensurate with knowledge, skills, and abilities. Salary plus bonus component and demo vehicle included.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Managing overall dealership performance across sales, finance, service, and parts
- Partnering with department leaders to set and achieve realistic and measurable goals
- Leading, coaching, and developing managers and staff to create a unified, high performing team
- Ensuring a strong customer experience that reflects both Toyota and Steele Auto Group standards
- Supporting continuous improvement and compliance with company policies and industry expectations
- Monitoring financial performance, controlling expenses, and driving sustainable profitability
- Reviewing market conditions and identifying opportunities for growth
- Additional responsibilities may be undertaken to support the success of the dealership
To Be Successful in This Role, You Will Bring:
- At least 3 years of automotive experience
- 3 to 5 years in a GSM or GM role, or equivalent leadership background, while automotive experience is a plus, we are looking for leadership experience and skills primarily. This role leads leaders, and our leadership ethos is rooted in supporting employees so they can perform at their best. We lead with empathy, paired with a clear, consistent, and transparent level of accountability.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to develop and motivate diverse teams
- Working knowledge of dealership operations including financials, sales, and service
- Confidence in negotiation and problem solving
- An employee and customer focused mindset with a commitment to delivering a best-in-class experience
- The ability to thrive in a results focused environment
- Solid organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities
Preferred Experience, Not Required:
- Experience managing multiple locations or working in a larger automotive group
- Exposure to automotive retail or wholesale financing
- Knowledge of dealer management systems
