The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking an experienced analyst to join the Financial Services Branch within Corporate Services Division, located in Fredericton.
Who we are:
The Financial Services Branch provides a range of financial and support services to DNR, the Department of Energy (DE), and the Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries (DAAF). Located in Fredericton and reporting to the Manager of Budgeting and Reporting, the Financial Analyst will play an important role in Leading the budgeting and reporting functions for an assigned client group of either DNR, DE, and/or DAAF. DNR's mandate is to support, manage, and protect the forests, fish, and wildlife of New Brunswick, and to develop and manage the province's energy and mineral resources. DE's mandate is to develop policies, regulations, and legislation to enable the energy sector to operate and thrive within the province while ensuring affordable, safe, and reliable energy for all New Brunswickers, without compromising security of supply. This involves balancing the needs of the energy sector with the public interest of affordable and dependable energy. DAAF's mandate is to develop and implement a total development approach for the agriculture, aquaculture, fisheries, and value-added sectors, aimed at improving the economic competitiveness and responsible development of these sectors and related industries.
What you will do:
Financial Analyst responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Preparing and monitoring budgets.
- Updating projections and developing strategies to address budget pressures.
- Conducting analysis and providing decision support.
- Conducting accounting functions and participating in strategic initiatives.
- Support financial management and decision making by analyzing and reviewing weekly financial reports.
- Auditing the accounting information for integrity and identifying and correcting errors.
- Investigating and resolving discrepancies or variances.
- Reconciling general ledger accounts monthly.
- Preparing journal entries including accruals.
- Participate and provide support to strategic initiatives and special projects that are either led by Financial Services or the groups that the Analyst supports.
- Conduct research and in-depth analysis and provide advice and decision support.
Essential Qualifications:
- A Bachelor degree in Business Administration or a related discipline, including accounting courses, and a minimum of three (3) years of related financial experience in a computerized work environment.
OR
- A 1 or 2-year diploma in a related discipline, including accounting courses, and a minimum of five (5) years of financial experience in a computerized work environment.
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite is essential.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability on your application.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate one or more of the following:
- Financial experience within a government or large corporate environment.
- Experience using Oracle Fusion.
- A professional accounting designation (CPA) or current enrollment in a recognized CPA program.

- Working outside of the regular business hours may be required.
Work environment:
- Office location: Hugh John Flemming Forestry Centre, 1350 Regent Street, Fredericton, New Brunswick.
- Office layout: Offices.
- Work hours: Monday to Friday / 8:15 to 4:30; 36.25 hours per week.

Salary: $55,198 to $74,360 per annum
