What is the opportunity?
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Vice President, Commodities Origination to join our team in Calgary. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with a proven track record in commodities origination or trading, coupled with a comprehensive understanding of global commodities markets. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in driving business growth by identifying and executing strategic opportunities across a diverse range of commodities, cultivating strong client relationships, and delivering innovative solutions for producers and consumers.
What will you do?
Key Responsibilities
Business Development:
Proactively support current clients by providing industry insights, tailored trading strategies, and ongoing relationship management.
Identify, develop, and execute new business opportunities in commodities origination, focusing on both producer and consumer strategies.
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, producers, consumers, and internal stakeholders to drive revenue growth.
Lead negotiations and structure complex commodity transactions that align with client needs and organizational objectives.
Market Expertise:
Leverage extensive knowledge of commodities markets, with expertise in physical natural gas, natural gas liquids (NGL), liquefied natural gas (LNG), or power markets.
Develop and execute origination strategies tailored to both producers and consumers, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities within these markets.
Stay informed on market developments, regulatory changes, and emerging trends to provide strategic insights and recommendations to clients and internal teams.
Collaborate with trading teams to align origination strategies with market dynamics and organizational goals.
Leadership and Collaboration:
Partner with cross-functional teams, including trading, risk management, legal, and operations, to ensure seamless transaction execution.
Mentor and guide team members, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, and client meetings to enhance visibility and strengthen the organization's market presence.
What do you need to succeed?
Minimum of 10 years of experience in commodities origination, trading, or related roles, with expertise in global commodities markets.
Proven ability to structure and execute complex commodity transactions.
In-depth knowledge of energy markets, including market dynamics, key drivers, and major industry participants.
Demonstrated experience working with both producers and consumers in the commodities space.
Exceptional negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a strategic and results-oriented mindset.
Experience in commodity structured finance is an asset.
Bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., CFA, MBA) are considered an asset.
