We are currently looking for two Forestry Co-op Students to join our Forestry team for the summer term. Reporting to the Senior Forester, the Forestry Co-op Student is accountable for monitoring and supporting of the implementation of the Transmission Vegetation Management Program throughout Nova Scotia.
This is a field position requiring a flexible work schedule, travel, and weekend work.
Key elements of this role include:
- foliar monitoring of contractors.
- herbicide notifications at field sites.
- data collection in remote work sites using GPS.
- quality checks of field sites.
You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of co-workers, by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.
These skills will make you successful:
To thrive in this role, you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and skills listed below:
- You are a forestry undergraduate or technical program student who is interested in vegetation management and/ or silviculture.
- You must hold a valid Nova Scotia Driver's License with a minimum of 2 years driving experience and provide a driver's abstract satisfactory to NSPI.
- You will have excellent interpersonal and listening skills and the ability to express yourself clearly and confidently.
- You must be able to work with customers in difficult situations and work under pressure while still maintaining a high standard of customer service.
- You will be able to work with minimum supervision, display excellent knowledge of company rules and regulations, demonstrate excellent customer service skills, and work in a safe and efficient manner.
- You are required to have a good working knowledge of GIS and ESRI mobile products.
- You must present yourself in a professional manner with appropriate attire and be able to meet the physical challenges of the position.
The following skills/ qualifications would be considered an asset:
- NS Herbicide Applicator License
- Experience using ESRI Field Maps
- Safety minded
