Group Benefits Solutions (GBS) provides benefits to over 50,000 employees and retirees. We are the largest provider of benefits in Nova Scotia offering a broad range of Employee Benefit Plans, including Group Life, Health, Dental, a self-insured Long Term Disability Plan (LTD), and a menu of optional benefits. We're excited to announce a new opportunity for a Benefits Administrator (Disability & Claims) as we continue to grow and expand our team. This is a full-time, permanent position, with accountability to the Manager, Disability Programs, Group Benefits Solutions.

Role Duties:

  • The day-to-day benefits administration of the Long-Term Disability Plan (Path2Health Program)
  • Ensuring member eligibility is accurate and current in keeping with the LTD Plan Text
  • The day-to-day processing of death claims and optional insurance benefits claims
  • Frequent tracking, auditing and report of data and providing ad-hoc reports as required
  • Providing exceptional customer service to member facilities and their employees
  • Contribution audits and supporting other special projects as required
  • Acts as a first point of contact and resource for plan members, providing direction and liaison with the employer and insurance provider
  • Supports member organizations through tasks and responsibilities that require in depth specialized knowledge of benefits and independent decision making
  • Applies a broad base of benefits knowledge and experience in successfully administering HANS Benefits.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Completion of university level education in a business or related field, or a combination of education, training and experience
  • Knowledge of employee group benefits, plan administration, and disability programs
  • Completion of some industry level courses such as International Foundation of Employee Benefits Programs - e.g. CEBS, FTMS, ATMS, or at a minimum willingness to further industry knowledge
  • Minimum of (5) years' experience in the benefit administration field either through an employer, third party administrator or the insurance industry
  • Advanced user of MS365 tools such as Excel, SharePoint, Word, PowerPoint.
  • The ability to work independently and provide outstanding customer service to our members and their employees
  • The ability to provide empathy and support for members and families during disability or bereavement
  • Superior attention to detail
  • Strong data entry skills and proven accurate keyboard skills.
