Purity Factories Limited is a well-established manufacturer of breads, crackers, cookies, candies and syrups located in St. John's, Newfoundland. We are currenty seeking a dedicated person to fill the role of controller to manage all aspects of accounting at our manufacturing facility off Blackmarsh Road in St. John's.

Controller Job Summary

The controller will handle high-level accounting, managerial accounting, and oversee the financial activities of the company. As head of the accounting department, the controller will manage and supervise all aspects of accounting from payroll to tax compliance. They will report to the President and will assist with the development and improvement of internal control policies, procedures, and financial planning.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of accounting; billing, financial statements, GL, cost accounting, payroll, A/P, A/R, budgeting, tax compliance, inventory, revenue recognition, and various special analyses
  • Oversee accounting and office staff employees (3-4 people)
  • Maintain documented system of accounting policies and operations
  • Oversee payments of all accounts; ensuring all accounts are paid on time
  • Oversee all expenditures and monitor bank balances
  • Keep an organized filing system of all accounts, statements, transactions, and payments
  • Prepare monthly/annual financial statements for record and review
  • Manage the quarterly/annual budgets and forecasts
  • Advise on financial analyses and decision-making regarding capital investments, pricing, contract negotiations, significant costs, benchmarks, and other matters with management
  • Organize information and statements for both internal and external audits
  • Comply with all provincial and federal laws regarding finances, tax filings, and reporting
  • Manage personal insurance and pension plans
  • Additional support as needed

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration with an emphasis in finance or accounting
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
  • Ideal Candidate will have 5+ years in a similar role
  • Excellent computer skills; experience in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principles, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting best practices, laws, standards, and provincial/federal regulations
  • Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations
  • Attention to detail and ability to multi-task
  • Able to work well with management team, as well as mentor/lead others
