What is the opportunity?

The Fixed Income Derivative Operations group under RBC Capital Markets is looking to hire a Trade Support Reconciliation Analyst - to support the Toronto and New York rates derivatives trading desks.

The incumbent's primary responsibility is to perform daily reconciliation of cash and positions between our main trading system (Murex) and our sub-ledger system, while providing operational support to the rates derivatives trading desks to ensure accurate settlement and position reporting.

What will you do?

Daily Reconciliation (Primary Focus):

  • Perform daily reconciliation of cash and positions between Murex and sub-ledger systems with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Investigate and resolve reconciliation breaks and discrepancies in a timely manner, ensuring all issues are documented and escalated appropriately.

  • Review and verify General Ledger entries and Nostro account balances to ensure all transactions are properly recorded.

  • Monitor reconciliation reports to identify issues, breaks, and control deficiencies, and promptly implement corrective action.

  • Ensure all reconciliations are completed within prescribed deadlines with appropriate documentation and sign-offs.

  • Liaise with Front Office, Product Control, IT, and Accounting teams to resolve breaks and discrepancies efficiently.

  • Take a proactive approach to monitoring the accuracy of the daily reconciliation reports.

  • Toronto and New York Rates Derivatives Trading Desk Support (Secondary):

  • Provide operational support to Toronto and New York rates derivatives trading desks, ensuring smooth flow of daily activities.

  • Assist with trade validation and verification of interest rate derivatives booked in Murex.

  • Monitor shared group inboxes and respond to trader inquiries within time-constrained deadlines.

  • Process post-trade amendments related to the lifecycle of trades (e.g., unwinds, novations, restructurings).

  • Process Improvement and Documentation:

  • Actively identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and enhanced efficiency in reconciliation workflows.

  • Assist in ensuring that process manuals and documentation are kept up to date.

  • Participate in cross-training initiatives and provide support to other desks as required.

  • Assist in scheduled internal and external audits.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Strong Excel skills including advanced formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, etc.

  • 2+ years of relevant reconciliation experience in a financial services environment, preferably within capital markets or trading operations.

  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to work effectively and reliably under pressure in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

  • Team player who can collaborate effectively across multiple functions and geographies.

  • Nice-to-have

  • Understanding of accounting principles and experience reconciling General Ledger accounts and Nostro accounts.

  • Experience/working knowledge of rates derivatives products (Interest Rate Swaps, Cross Currency Swaps, Forward Rate Agreements) and related processing procedures.

  • Familiarity with trading and risk management systems such as Murex, Infinity, or similar platforms.

  • Knowledge of sub-ledger accounting systems and month-end close processes.

  • Other technical skills such as Python, VBA, SQL, or other automation tools.
