The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Senior Geologist, Projects to join our Exploration team in Sudbury, Ontario.

This is a 6 months Fixed-Term position.

As a Senior Geologist, Projects, you will be supporting drilling programs through detailed core logging and accurate data collection. This role is critical to ensuring high-quality geological insights that guide operational decisions. In addition, the geologist maybe required to contribute to projects and strategic initiatives led by the Exploration Team, providing support that drives innovation and resource development.

Additionally in this position you will:

  • Follow departmental safety program: attend and participate in daily safety line up meetings, monthly safety meetings, required safety training and adhere to site requirements.
  • Geological and geotechnical core logging, sampling, QA/QC
  • Core is to be logged at the Surface Core Facility.
  • Must be physically capable of handling 500 ft-1,000 ft of diamond drill core per day. Individual core boxes can range in weight from 20 to 60 lbs.
  • Assist project Geologists in the collection of geological, rock mechanics information and other diamond drill core-related duties.
  • Operation of mobile equipment, as required, to perform duties both on surface (forklifts, utility vehicles, etc.)
  • Communicate changes in ore and structural interpretation to diamond drill geologists.
  • Identify, analyze, and recommend opportunities for safety, productivity, and cost improvements.
  • Communicate observed and potential safety hazards to site supervisor.
  • Potential travel to mine sites for surface drill inspections may be required.
  • Possible diamond drill layout creation and creation of wireframes.
  • Carry out specific accountabilities and projects as assigned by the Brown Field Exploration – Chief Geologist

About You

Education:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Geology or Earth Science combined with Professional Geologist or Engineering designation (P.Geo. or P.Eng.). Advanced degree (MSc.), preferred.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 8-10 years working in a role of similar experience in a related field. Experience working in an industrial environment such as mining is preferred.

Skills

  • Sudbury Basin Geology knowledge is necessary to be successful in role.
  • Knowledge of Exploration methods, strategy, technology and methodology.
  • Knowledge of Ore Deposits, Magmatic and hydrothermal systems, Magmatic Sulfide deposits and deposit geology specifically Sudbury Bain Geology, Voisey's Bay Geology, Thompson Geology.
  • Ability to effectively interact with DIPM and Base Metals peers.
  • Strong technical knowledge includes practical aspects of exploration, drilling, geophysics, hole orientation, hole planning and steering, hole surveying and geotechnical technics.
