JOB PURPOSE

The incumbent is responsible to plan, organize, coordinate, design, present and facilitate learning activities and education programs for employees as directed by the Regional Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing required and active registration with NANB.
  • Minimum of 5 years recent experience in an acute care setting.
  • Formal training in adult education or equivalent experience in adult education with a willingness to attain formal training.
  • Have, or be in the process of obtaining, active BLS/CAP Instructor Certification from the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
  • Have, or be willing to obtain, active Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Instructor Certification from the Crisis Prevention Institute.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, deliver, and evaluate educational programs.
  • Demonstrated initiative, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a team.
  • Experience working with technology and virtual communication platforms.
  • Excellent writing, grammar, and organization skills are required.
  • Ability to travel to other Horizon facilities to deliver instruction occasionally as needed.
  • Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
  • Ability to perform the duties of the position, which includes teaching NVCI and Code White physical skills and patient handling.
  • Good work record.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Staff Educator is responsible to:

  • Facilitate BLS courses
  • Facilitate Nursing Orientation
  • Facilitate Computer Training
  • Facilitate Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training
  • Facilitate Code White Physical Skills
  • Facilitate Gentle Persuasive Approach
  • Facilitate CaRES General Orientation
  • Facilitate other educational programs as required
  • Determine educational needs using appropriate assessment tools
  • Develop learning programs / solutions based on the Principles of Adult Education
  • Plan, deliver, and evaluate education programs. Programs include, but not limited to, instructor-led and e-learning delivery methodology
  • Promote continuing education and professional development of staff
  • Work independently and with minimal supervision
  • Professional communication and collaboration with colleagues and clients
  • Perform other duties as assigned
