JOB PURPOSE

To collaboratively participate in the planning and delivery of total nursing care in the operating room, recovery room, day surgery, and pre-surgical screening clinic to meet individual patient needs in accordance with the philosophy, objectives and policies of the hospital and the nursing department.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Current active registration with Nurses Association of New Brunswick, or eligible for such.
• Minimum of 3 years of OR/Day Surgery/PACU experience is a requirement.
• Completion of a peri-op course or willing to obtain in the first 6-12 months of hire.
• BCMI required.
• Must become trained in IV Therapy procedures in compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
• Successful completion of Basic Life Support Course and recertify yearly.
• Willingness to participate in continuing education programs.
• Must be willing to rotate to other areas of the hospital as required.
• Must be willing to complete required certification programs for medical delegate functions and advanced nursing skills (or Advanced Competencies) in accordance with Horizon ' s OR/DS/PACU standards.
• Must be available to be on stand-by and take call-back on a regular basis as per schedule. (Applicants must have immediate means of transportation and be capable of reporting to work within twenty (20) minutes of being called back).
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, public, coworkers, Public Health agencies and Medical Staff.
• Demonstrated ability to apply theoretical knowledge.
• Demonstrated ability to manage stressful situations and to set priorities.
• Demonstrated adherence to legislation and Horizon Health Network Zone 7 Confidentiality Policy to ensure all patient, business, financial and employee information is accessed on an as need to know basis.

• Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
• Ability to perform the duties of the position as per Horizon' s OR/DS/PACU standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Must be able to demonstrate knowledge as well as adhere to and promote the mission, vision, values, philosophy, objective goals, policies and procedure of Horizon' s OR/DS/PACU standards.
• Ability to perform duties within the RN scope of practice in accordance with OR/DS/PACU standards.
• When needed, assist the anesthesia department during all 3 phases of anesthesia: Induction, Maintenance and Emergence.
• Demonstrate initiative and good judgement.
• Patient Safety is a critical aspect of quality healthcare.
