Port Hawkesbury Paper is seeking a Steam & Utilities Process Engineer with a strong foundation in data analytics to join our team. Reporting to the Technical Manager, this role is responsible for optimizing the mill's steam generation, steam balance, condensate recovery, and utility systems through data-driven decision-making. The ideal candidate will have a Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree (P.Eng preferred; EITs considered), with three or more years of experience in industrial utilities and a passion for leveraging data to drive performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze real-time and historical data from steam and utility systems to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement
  • Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to implement data-informed process improvements
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports using tools such as Power BI, PI System Explorer, and Excel to support operational decision-making
  • Lead small-scale projects focused on thermal energy efficiency, cost reduction, and reliability improvements
  • Support process safety assessments and ensure data integrity in risk reviews and compliance documentation
  • Assist with P&ID updates, operating procedures, and management of change processes

Skills & Competencies:

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills (inc. with 3rd Parties)
  • Ability to translate data insights into actionable improvements
  • Familiarity with steam systems, HRUs, boilers, turbines, and utility distribution networks
  • Strong analytical mindset with experience in data visualization and statistical analysis
  • Proficiency in Power BI, PI ProcessBook, PI System Explorer, and Excel
  • Experience with scripting or automation tools (e.g., Python, VBA) is an asset
  • Commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, team-oriented environment
