Launch Master
Pilot Boat Operations (St. John's and Placentia Bay)
At present, we are recruiting for one Launch Master Trainee who will be trained in both the St. John's and Placentia Bay Pilot Boat operations.
The Launchmaster is the captain of the pilot launch. The primary responsibility of the Launchmaster is to safely transfer Marine Pilots between the Pilot Boat and a ship entering or leaving a compulsory pilotage area. The Launchmaster has to possess superior boat handling skills and excellent seamanship to maneuver the pilot boat alongside an oceangoing vessel, often in open water.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Applicants for this position should hold the following:
- Canadian certification.
- Certificate of Competency: Master 150T
- Transport Canada Marine Medical
- Marine Advanced First Aid
Compensation:
- Annual Salary: $81,388 (rotational work: 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off)
- Group Insurance cost shared 50% employee/ 50% employer (while a Launch Master Trainee)
After training is complete, the Launch Master position is unionized under Operating Engineers Local 904. Terms and conditions of employment are governed by existing CBAs (including group insurance and pension through the union's plan). After training is complete, a probationary period of 90 days will apply.
