Purpose

The Scotia Wealth Management Will and Estate Planner (WEP) is a key member of the Scotia Wealth Management team; providing clients with a premium wealth management experience. As part of an innovative team-based approach to wealth management, the successful candidate will work to deepen and strengthen client relationships by providing clients with a lighter touch consultation targeted at clients who do not qualify for a full ETC engagement. The consultation includes a review of their current situation focused on their Wills, Power of Attorney, other estate planning considerations, such as insurance coverage, and their overall financial plan. The focus of the engagement is to showcase additional expertise at Scotia Wealth Management and to identify any high-level estate planning gaps and other opportunities to deepen the client relationship while helping them achieve their goals.

Key Job Accountabilities

  1. Deliver a high-level estate planning consultation to high net worth Scotia Wealth Management clients
  • Partner with Scotia Wealth Management advisors to meet with their HNW clients and prospects, creating a positive experience for the client and the advisor, adding value by providing a review of their current situation including their Wills and Powers of Attorney to provide high-level estate planning recommendations.
  • Includes a 1-2 hour Discovery meeting with the client and advisor to clarify their current situation and showcase your depth of expertise
  • Output is a written report for the client and the advisor highlighting appropriate, high-level needs-based estate planning strategies and solutions as well as other identified Wealth opportunities (e.g. need for insurance)
  • Recognizing opportunities for partners and clients for Total Wealth solutions such as financial planning, business succession, investments, private banking and insurance solutions
  • Develop and strengthen existing relationships with clients and advisors, while also building new relationships to increase penetration and awareness of offering
  1. Support Wealth Management Business Development
    • The WEP is involved in actively promoting will and estate planning products and services to prospective clients. When an opportunity is identified for Trust services, the client is referred to the local Estate & Trust Consultant (ETC)
    • Where needed, the WEP will participate in Round Table meetings to assist in triaging potential clients. Depending on the potential opportunity, WEP would provide a consultation to the client or would recommend the client engage directly with an ETC
    • WEP is available to assist ETC in helping other team of experts, such as Total Wealth Planners and Insurance Consultants, assess potential new opportunities
    • WEP is available to assist ETC in delivering client and advisor education seminars in support of improving awareness around estate planning strategies and solutions that will drive new business and increase referrals from advisors

  1. Play key risk management role by:
  • Being responsible and accountable for always doing the right thing for clients and ensuring that actions and behaviours drive a positive client experience while operating within the relevant policies and guidelines established for the role
  • Supporting Scotia Wealth offices with technical expertise and staying current on industry developments
  1. Contribute to the effective functioning of the regional team of specialists by:
    • Participating actively in learning development activities
    • Building effective working relationships with various business lines
    • Contributing to the coordinated delivery of Total Wealth planning, advice, and solutions
    • Facilitating a culture of open and honest communication
    • Actively participating and contributing to touch bases and team meetings
    • Encouraging the generation of new ideas and approaches
    • Sharing knowledge and experience to enhance the development of all team members
    • Developing and executing a meaningful employee development plan

5. Additional Accountabilities

    • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
    • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
    • Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, which ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/AFT/sanctions and conduct risk.

Skills and functional Competencies

1. Experience in estate planning is a prerequisite, with a preference for a Lawyer.

2. In-depth experience dealing with HNW clients and their advisors

3. In-depth knowledge and technical proficiency related to wealth and estate planning strategies such as insurance, tax, family and charity law, and business succession
