JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Marine Engineer

SUMMARY: The primary role of the Marine Engineer is to implement and achieve the policies and goals as set forth by the Company in all engineering aspects of the vessel. They are responsible to the Chief Engineer, to ensure that these duties are performed effectively and cost-efficiently.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safety

  • Will ensure defective equipment that affects the safety of the crew, or safety or seaworthiness of the vessel, is promptly reported to the Captain through the Chief Engineer; and all employees or others at or near the workplace follow the safety policies and safe work procedures established for the workplace.

General

  • They will collaborate with other vessel officers to maximize efficiency in the complete operation of the vessel and all equipment.
  • They will carry out the reliable centered maintenance program to minimize delays and requirement for repairs, as directed by the Chief Engineer.
  • Work in collaboration with the Chief Engineer and Vessel Manager on refit planning and planned maintenance lay-overs.
  • Will keep accurate records of inspections and repairs on ship's equipment as directed by the Chief Engineer.
  • Will assist the Chief Engineer in management of the vessel turn-arounds and maintenance layovers, including management of contractors, scheduling of work and work crews, and inspections with regulatory bodies.

Training

  • Will take advantage of training opportunities with the Chief Engineer to improve knowledge and skills, and advance career as opportunity permits when:
    • On Double-Watch
    • On Scheduled Maintenance Lay-overs
    • During re-fits

Inventory and Records

  • Will maintain the Engineer Department inventory, including daily input of consumable items.
  • Will be accurate and complete with information recorded in all logbooks and reports.

Certifications

  • Marine Motor Class 3 or higher
  • Valid Marine Medical for Offshore Fishing
  • Must ensure job skills, training and required certificates are kept up-to-date.
