Advancing Genomics Innovation and Impact in Atlantic Canada and beyond
Genome Atlantic is the region's catalyst for genomics-driven innovation, commercialization, and economic growth. For over 25 years, the organization has delivered more than $165 million in collaborative R&D, translating cutting-edge science into real-world solutions that strengthen industries, safeguard ecosystems, and improve human health across Atlantic Canada. This is a rare opportunity to influence regional and national priorities through applied research and help shape the future of genomics.
As one of six regional genome centres established in 2000 under Genome Canada's national network, Genome Atlantic works at the intersection of science, industry, and policy. Through strategic partnerships with companies, academic institutions, governments, and other stakeholders, the organization advances applied research across key sectors, including ocean industries (aquaculture, energy, fisheries), agriculture and agri-food, forestry, environmental stewardship, human health, and mining.
Genome Atlantic is seeking a visionary, dynamic, and people-centred President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the organization into its next chapter of growth and impact. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will provide strategic leadership to advance genomics-based innovation and commercialization, while deepening Genome Atlantic's role as a trusted partner in the regional and national innovation ecosystem. The CEO will champion a bold vision for genomics as a driver of economic and societal transformation; cultivate and manage high-impact relationships across government, industry, academia, and the broader community; and oversee a diverse and growing portfolio of collaborative projects aligned with regional strengths and national priorities. They lead fund development and diversification efforts to ensure long-term sustainability. The CEO represents Genome Atlantic as a compelling advocate and spokesperson, translating complex science into accessible, actionable narratives.
The ideal candidate is a strategic and entrepreneurial leader with a proven track record of guiding mission-driven organizations. The successful candidate will bring at least ten years of progressive senior leadership experience, strong business and financial acumen, and demonstrated success in securing and managing multi-source funding. They will hold a bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline, have experience in board governance and a proven ability to inspire and support a high-performing team, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and collaboration. A PhD or MBA, and experience in the not-for-profit sector, genomics, biotechnology, life sciences or broader innovation and research ecosystem, are assets.
They bring a deep appreciation for the power of science and innovation to solve complex challenges and a passion for building partnerships that turn discovery into measurable impact. An exceptional communicator and relationship-builder, they are passionate about serving in a high-profile role and navigating, leading, and advancing the future potential of genomics, de-risking R&D investment for private companies and forging collaborative partnerships.
