Finance Manager

About the Role
The Finance Manager is responsible for end-to-end financial operations, combining hands-on management of daily finance tasks (accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, reconciliations) with oversight of reporting, compliance, and financial planning. This role is both operational and advisory - ensuring accuracy and compliance in financial transactions while providing management with the insight needed to support growth and integration goals. The Finance Manager will also mentor and collaborate with the Administrative Assistant to ensure effective support in daily financial operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and reconciliations
- Prepare, issue, and track client invoices; manage collections and payments
- Handle month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries and reporting
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for management review
- Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards, tax regulations, and reporting requirements
- Coordinate with external accountants and auditors
- Provide financial insight on cash flow, budgets, and project performance
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy
- Mentor and guide administrative staff supporting AR/AP and reconciliations
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- CPA designation (or in progress) preferred but not required
- 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, ideally in a project-based or manufacturing/engineering environment
- Proficiency in Sage 50; experience with ERP systems considered an asset
- Strong understanding of Canadian accounting standards and tax compliance
- Proven ability to manage both operational finance and high-level reporting
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Hands-on, adaptable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
