Overview

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Controller to lead financial operations and play a key role in shipping, inventory, government funding, and customer logistics. This role combines financial leadership with practical, cross-functional execution to support operational excellence and growth.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership

  • Lead all accounting, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and internal control functions.
  • Analyze financial performance and recommend strategies to improve efficiency and profitability.
  • Manage audits, tax filings, and compliance with GAAP and financial regulations.
  • Deliver monthly and quarterly reports with actionable insights for leadership.
  • Implement and monitor cost control initiatives across departments.

Shipping & Customer Logistics

  • Manage domestic and international shipping to meet customer and business objectives.
  • Oversee third-party logistics (3PL), freight partners, and customs compliance.
  • Ensure accurate and timely export documentation in accordance with trade laws (USMCA/CUSMA, ITAR, EAR, etc.).
  • Monitor carrier performance and implement continuous improvement for delivery reliability and cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate with production, sales, and finance to resolve delivery or customs issues and enhance customer satisfaction.

Inventory & Supply Management

  • Maintain accurate inventory control systems through audits, cycle counts, and reconciliations.
  • Analyze turnover and optimize purchasing to reduce waste and excess stock.
  • Oversee procurement and inventory for office supplies, packaging, and operational consumables.
  • Ensure ERP and financial systems are fully integrated for real-time visibility and reporting.

Government Funding & Incentives

  • Identify, apply for, and manage relevant government grants, tax credits, and incentive programs.
  • Coordinate application preparation, documentation, and compliance reporting.
  • Collaborate with leadership, consultants, and agencies to secure and manage funding streams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (CPA/CMA preferred).
  • 7+ years of progressive financial management experience, ideally in manufacturing or logistics.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, cost accounting, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with ERP or accounting systems (preferably Sage).
  • Exceptional analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with government funding programs and process improvement considered an asset.
