The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Senior Analyst, R&D to join our Research and development team in Sheridan Park, Mississauga.

This is a permanent onsite position.

As a Senior Analyst, R&D, you will be responsible for setting up and maintaining good financial practices, as well as ensuring full compliance with VBM financial policies and procedures.

This position is the financial and data focal point for Vale Base Metals R&D portfolio including responsibilities to set-up and maintain SAP including work breakdown structures and cost centers, interface with the VBM finance, VBM controlling and others to ensure R&D projects and assets are maintained/closed/written off/capitalized according to corporate standards.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Develop and maintain custom dashboards, business intelligence, and reporting tools to ensure the R&D portfolio's financials are on track and adhere to the annual plan.
  • Advise the R&D Director and Manager on strategies to maximize annual R&D work within the budget.
  • Actively monitor spend, commitments, and system activity to ensure budget adherence and overall budget health.
  • Serve as the focal point for addressing ad hoc questions and requests from external departments.
  • Integrate all production data tools (SAP, Capture Tool, Maturity App) to minimize initiative implementation lead time and reduce the technical load for managers.
  • Perform regular maintenance in SAP to ensure SOX compliance, facilitate audits, and manage project write-offs and capitalization on a quarterly basis.
  • Set up, configure, and maintain the SAP system for the Research & Innovation project portfolio, including budget planning, WBS structure, project status monitoring, and monthly forecast updates.
  • Extract SAP source data, transform and load it into various databases and business intelligence tools to streamline and centralize data consumption.
  • Act as a technical advisor and support the R&I team through training on various data technologies, systems, and VBM processes.
  • Build data and financial models as needed.
  • Develop and maintain the processing, research, and innovation opex budget.
  • Expedite purchasing service entry requests and invoice payment requests on behalf of the processing research and development team.
  • Maintain a view of contract status, including spend versus purchase order amount and contract expiry dates.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis as needed.

About You

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree or College Diploma in relevant discipline

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of related work experience

Skills:

  • Excel Power User - advanced data and financial modelling with use of developer features to create standalone solutions (code/macro automation, sliders, buttons etc).
  • SAP, SAP BO, BW HANA in various use cases including project setup and configuration, the use of various reporting modules and upload templates
  • Advanced BI Dashboard Development (MS Tech Stack (Power BI, DAX, M Query, Power Apps, Power Automate), SAP Business Objects) preferred.
  • SQL Relational Database Design (Transact SQL, JET SQL, MS Access) with a focus on consolidation from various data sources, data manipulation and custom table/middle layer creation is preferred
  • MS Office Application Development (vba) leveraging code to maximize front-end user experience by creating interaction, automating processes and validating inputs/outputs (spec data models, calculators, decision making tools, predictive models, forecasting tools etc.) is preferred
  • Knowledge of the procurement process and experience inputting service entry requests and invoice payment requests
  • Portuguese language capability preferred but not required
