The Department of Natural Resources is seeking an individual to join the regional operations as District Forest Ranger, within the West Region, in Welsford or St. George.

As a member of the regional resource team, the successful candidate will be responsible to provide overall management of the district field operations including Crown land management, forest fire operations, fish and wildlife management, forest management, and public education. The successful candidate will be responsible for: managing district resource staff through the development and implementation of an annual district resource work plan; supervising and providing leadership to the Assistant District Forest Ranger and administrative staff, including managing employee performance and staff development; managing the administrative functions of the district office and the associated budgets; ensuring staff compliance with Acts, Regulations, Policies and Collective Agreements; and performing other related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: A diploma from a recognized forest resource technical program and a minimum of eight (8) years of post-diploma natural resource related experience including: five (5) years of forest fire management experience; and one (1) year of experience supervising regular/seasonal staff and/or managing a budget.

  • Specialized subject matter expertise and knowledge in forest management, Crown land management, fish and wildlife management and forest fire management;
  • Knowledge of conflict management practices;
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation and department policies and procedures;
  • Planning and organizing skills.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Travel throughout the district and to other locations as required; and working irregular hours when necessary. The successful candidate will be required to complete designated management training during the course of their employment in this position. A valid class 5 driver's license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick or equivalent, is also required. The successful candidate must successfully complete a Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) vulnerable sector reference check as requested.

SALARY: $62,036 to $77,480 per annum
