What is the opportunity?
RBC Global Asset Management (GAM) is seeking a Senior Manager, Lead Business Analyst to join our team and lead all facets of Business Analysis work aligned to projects supporting GAM's strategic objectives. You will be supporting and individually contributing to critical, complex, cross geographical, and high-profile projects across business and technology domains. The role demonstrates advanced knowledge, expert ability, and can apply Business Analyst competencies in new or complex situations while coaching other professionals and practitioners across the team. You will be accountable for execution of all aspects of requirements delivery from planning, elicitation, analysis and documentation, to management, support, and recommending solutions – as well as leading project management activities for smaller initiatives as required – for projects both in an agile and iterative waterfall delivery environment. Project scope includes large projects/programs, multiple stakeholders, multiple technologies and/or third parties, and teams working around the globe. Significant independent judgment is required with little or no management direction provided. What will you do?
- Define the business analysis approach, plans and accurate estimates for requirements, including tasks and deliverables using agile or iterative waterfall methodology and tools, and continuously refine them for accuracy. Manage risks, assumptions and constraints for requirements, and communicate to appropriate parties.
- Forge relationships across global business and technology teams, performing stakeholder analysis to identify impacted groups and lead requirements prioritization leveraging techniques to drive out business priorities for complex projects.
- Facilitate collaborative sessions with large and diverse business and technology stakeholder groups to drive requirements discovery, analysis, and review. This could include partnering with third party vendors and assisting in the evaluation of third-party vendor solutions and requirements.
- Analyze and document detailed business and system solution requirements aligned to agile and/or iterative waterfall standards/frameworks, driving re-use and a documented knowledge base for products.
- Apply advanced coverage analysis techniques to ensure relationship between scope, detailed requirements, and testing through to implementation.
- Prepare, review, and support requirement validation and approval utilizing a variety of facilitation and communication techniques.
- Communicate the impact of changes through cost-benefit analysis taking into consideration time, effort, and business priorities.
- Support Design, Development and Testing activities by providing requirements clarifications, root-cause analysis, and project delivery guidance.
- Communicate cross functionally, ensuring transparency of progress and outcomes, report team progress and accomplishment up and across organizational chart, facilitate status updates and product demos.
- Collaborate with project managers, technical and operational SMEs, and business stakeholders to develop test (including user acceptance testing and post implementation verification testing) and implementation plans, including supporting/overseeing implementations as required.
- Manage smaller business or technology delivery projects, as required.
- Provide thought leadership, guidance and support to build the capabilities of junior/intermediate Business Analysts.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have:
- 7-10 years of experience working as a Business Analyst, Business Systems Analyst, or equivalent role with progressively increasing responsibilities in the areas of requirements management on large and complex projects spanning both business and technology domains.
- Bachelor's degree - specialization in Business, Finance, Engineering, Math or Science is preferred.
- Proven experience with various project delivery methodologies such as iterative waterfall and agile; experience working with a cross geographical/global team to deliver a project is preferred.
- Proven experience working with and navigating large and diverse business/technology stakeholder groups to drive requirements discovery, analysis, review, and approval.
- Proven experience being able to quickly understand business context, with expert competencies in analytical thinking and strategy analysis.
- Expert competency in requirements planning, prioritization, and documentation techniques, including stakeholder analysis and effort estimation.
- Expert competency in requirements management and communication, requirement walkthroughs, scope and change management, traceability, configuration management, and backlog management.
- Advanced knowledge of requirements elicitation techniques and when to use them in a given context or stakeholder group, such as data analysis, document analysis, interviews, facilitated workshops, observation, prototyping, focus groups, surveys, etc.
- Ability to present ideas, solicit input, negotiate compromise, in?uence decisions, and garner support of senior level team members/executives and/or initiative stakeholders.
- Basic experience facilitating small/low complexity business or technology projects (agile or iterative waterfall) from initiation through to release including but not limited to, project kick-off, workstream management, release and deployment planning, and implementation.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience in the financial industry, particularly in asset management is preferred.
- Experience working with data and data sets, including data/reporting tools (e.g. Tableau, SQL).
- Experience using project management and requirement tools such as LucidChart, Figma, Jira and/or Confluence.
- Relevant college, university, or post-graduate degree or certificate in Business Analysis.
- Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) or Project Management Institute – Professional in Business Analysis Certification (PMI – PBA) is preferred.
