Job Description:

The Solutions Architect will play a critical role in designing and implementing technology solutions for Capital Technology and ALM/FTP within Treasury.

This role requires expertise in solution architecture, integration of vendor platforms, and hands-on experience in building scalable, secure, and efficient systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Treasury systems, financial technology, and enterprise architecture principles.

Key Responsibilities:

Solution Architecture:
  • Develop and maintain an integration and solution architecture that delivers efficient, reliable, scalable, and secure solutions aligned with business needs and the overall technology strategy.
  • Design comprehensive end-to-end solutions that adhere to enterprise architecture guidelines, standards, and best practices.
  • Define guiding principles for solution architecture and identify integration capabilities required to meet business objectives.
  • Ensure alignment of solution architecture with the business unit's technical vision, product roadmap, and existing technical architecture.
  • Oversee and define development specifications, technical requirements, system performance objectives, and identify necessary system modifications to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Provide expert consultation and act as the top technical authority on high-risk, complex initiatives and projects.
  • Influence vendor product designs through subject matter expertise and contribute to the negotiation of third-party contracts and agreements, where applicable.
  • Build consensus and facilitate collaboration among business leaders, IT professionals, vendors, and outsourced partners to ensure consistent application of IT strategy and compliance with the architecture framework.
  • Contribute to project planning by providing technical input, managing assigned resources, communicating project status, and escalating issues in a timely manner to ensure successful delivery.
Integration and Vendor Management:
  • Evaluate and recommend vendor solutions, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and business requirements.
  • Collaborate with vendors to ensure successful implementation and ongoing support.
Technical Leadership:
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to development teams, ensuring adherence to architecture and best practices.
  • Lead the creation of project blueprints and design specifications for large, complex initiatives.
  • Define and promote development and design patterns for use across multiple systems and applications.
Requirements Analysis and Traceability:
  • Analyze use cases and activity diagrams to identify integration and functional requirements.
  • Work with Technology Business Analysts to develop a Requirements Traceability Matrix to ensure end-to-end traceability of the solution to the requirements.
Non-Functional Requirements:
  • Ensure solutions meet non-functional requirements such as scalability, performance, security, and extensibility.
  • Support automation, unit testing, and functional testability in solution implementations.
Strategic Planning and Innovation:
  • Collaborate with development teams on frameworks and solutions to support business needs and technology strategy.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in emerging technologies and recommend innovative solutions to improve business outcomes or reduce risks.
Collaboration and Communication:
  • Consult with clients and project teams to ensure technology solutions adhere to design principles and meet business needs.
  • Communicate project status to stakeholders and escalate issues as needed.
  • Represent the business unit in cross-LOB task forces and strategic initiatives.

CUSTOMER

  • Key lead in design and/or development of an architecture framework including technology domain architecture strategy, policies, 'guiding principles' and standards to govern how technology solutions will be developed and implemented
  • Research/analyze business requirements to evaluate and recommend optimal solutions within technology architecture
  • Lead project detailed solution architecture and design ensuring it meets requirements / complies with the architectural and security standards, patterns and frameworks and provide sign-off on the detailed design
  • Lead the development of project plans by providing input and manage projects / initiatives by directing assigned resources, communicating project status and providing timely escalation of issues
  • Provide expert consultation and participate as a subject matter expert on projects of high risk and complexity
  • Conduct pre and post implementation reviews, ensuring all technical solutions have met business requirements
  • Steer the process of development, documentation, communication and execution of a comprehensive strategy, policies and solutions

SHAREHOLDER

  • Adhere to enterprise frameworks or methodologies that relate to activities for area
  • Ensure projects are compliant with technology domain architecture and design/operate processes to provide ongoing review of in progress activity against technology architecture and development standards
  • Protect/enhance the security, availability of technology, brand integrity and shareholder value by establishing parameters for continued investment in technology solutions, and providing technical risk analysis / assessment
  • Identify enhancements and gaps in architectural frameworks, standards and patterns to raise issues for inclusion in future versions
  • Comply with well-defined enterprise technology delivery practices and standards and project management disciplines - including creation of project documentation of system requirements, estimates of scope and cost
  • Contribute to and/or develop the process by which decisions will be made regarding technology standards
  • Ensure respective programs/ policies/practices are well managed, meets business needs, complies with internal and external requirements, and aligns with business priorities
  • Actively seek and support continuous improvement and automation opportunities within the testing process
  • Protect the interests of the organization – identify and manage risks, and escalate non-standard, high risk activities as necessary
  • Keep abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements and assess potential impacts
  • Maintain a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite

  • Work collaboratively with the team and leadership to proactively identify and resolve issues related to product quality
  • Lead, motivate and develop relationships with internal and external business partners / stakeholders to develop productive working relationships.
  • Contribute to a fair, positive and equitable environment that supports a diverse workforce
  • Act as a brand ambassador for your business area/function and the bank, both internally and/or externally

BREADTH & DEPTH

  • Seasoned individual contributor role with expert knowledge of specific enterprise and/or functional domain(s) and a demonstrated track record working with a broad range of architecture frameworks, technology, tools, processes and procedures
  • Exceptional collaboration, communication and client-facing skills
  • Big-picture thinker, with ability to anticipate architectural gaps and identify emerging trends through both advanced business acumen and highly specialized technical knowledge of TD and its applications, programming languages, industry best practices, Bank standards, infrastructure and architectural design / solutions
  • Architectural generalist assigned to work autonomously on high profile, complex and/or high-risk technology projects with significant impact to the organization
  • Reports to an Architecture Practice Lead / Practice Area Lead

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • Education and Experience:
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Graduate degree preferred).
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in solution architecture, system integration, and technology leadership.
  • Technical Expertise:
  • Hands-on experience in coding, testing, and solution implementation.
  • Expertise in modern technologies such as Cloud (Azure preferred), microservices, and data integration platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of programming languages, application development processes, and enterprise architecture principles.
  • Treasury and Financial Technology Knowledge
  • Solid understanding of Treasury systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with financial data models, indicative pricing, and attribution/aggregation.
  • Leadership and Collaboration:
  • Proven ability to influence technical teams and provide mentorship.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Preferred Experience:
  • Experience with complex systems and platforms and/or vendor platform integration in Treasury or Capital Technology.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements in financial systems.
  • Experience with large scale, complex platforms and data pipelines.
  • Experience with data platforms, calculation engines or data warehouses.
