About the Role:
The Laboratory and X-Ray Technologist is responsible to perform a variety of routine and complex laboratory tests in a core lab and routine radiology procedures. These would include operating stationary equipment in the Diagnostic Imaging Department, preparing patients for examination, checking and maintaining x-ray equipment, performing phlebotomy when required, running Quality Control following established procedures and keeping appropriate documentation; performing routine preventative maintenance procedures on various laboratory instruments and keeping appropriate documentation. Performs other related duties as required. The candidate promotes Patient Safety initiatives through strict application of Western Health policies.
Job Qualifications:
- Successful completion of an approved program in Medical Laboratory Technology and a recognized X-Ray Technician course are required.
- General Registered Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) and current registration with both the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Sciences (CSMLS) and the Newfoundland and Labrador Council of Health Professionals are also required.
- Graduates of the cross training program offered by the College of the North Atlantic will be required to have current registration with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT).
Effective May 1, 2025, all Medical Radiation Technologists and X - Ray Health Professionals will require registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador Council of Health Professionals (NLCHP) in the appropriate discipline(s) in order to practice in Newfoundland and Labrador. The successful applicant is required to achieve registration by May 1, 2025.
If there are no candidates with the qualifications for a CLTX, a qualified MLT would be considered.
