Job Description

What is the opportunity?

The Senior Analyst, Global Manager Research (GMR) conducts initial and ongoing research, analysis and due diligence of investment managers offering mutual funds, separately managed accounts, exchange traded funds and sub-advisory relationships. The role will include overseeing a list of approved managers for the various investment businesses supported by GMR. The position is a senior role on the 30-person GMR team consisting of investment professionals based in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Asia which supports an asset base over $650 billion USD.

What will you do?

The position is a leadership role on the GMR team and includes the following accountabilities:

  • Conduct initial and ongoing research and due diligence on investment managers in supporting recommended lists used by RBC's global platforms

  • Provide clear and timely insight, information, and opinions on investment managers through published reports and verbal/audio communication channels

  • Assume a leading and active role on investment committees, including providing ideas and investment recommendations, in support of the management of a suite of internally-managed multi-asset portfolios offered in RBC's global businesses.

  • Assist advisors in business development efforts with ultra-high-net-worth clients through presentations, in-person meetings, audio and video interactions and other engagements

  • Fostering strong cross-border collaboration amongst the four GMR teams and its key stakeholders

  • As appropriate, represent GMR internally and externally in individual and/or group meetings (e.g., branch office visits, symposiums, conferences, and client meetings).

  • Act as an expert for important and highly visible business development opportunities and other speaking engagements, including important recruiting, client, and internal partnerships.

  • Mentor, coach and develop staff to enhance research capabilities across the team

What do you need to succeed?

Must haves:

  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience, including at least 2 years of experience in roles related to investment research

  • Solid understanding of key investment products and concepts including portfolio management, investment strategy (asset allocation), and investment structures (i.e. mutual funds, SMAs, ETFs)

  • Demonstrated ability to lead by example and operate at a high level with little oversight and direction from other colleagues

  • Proven skill in delivering credible presentations and recommendations to a variety of audiences

  • Advanced interpersonal, written and oral communication skills

Nice-to-have:

  • CFA/CAIA designation and/or advanced educational degrees

  • Undergraduate degree in business (with a preferred focus in finance, accounting, economics, math, or statistics)

  • Advanced use of investment analytical tools including Morningstar Direct, eVestment and other research tools
