Position Description:

Reporting to the Director, Communications & Marketing, the Digital Communications Manager leads the strategy, content, and operations of the university's web presence. Overseeing a team of content specialists and a web developer, this role ensures the StFX brand is effectively represented online through engaging, user-focused content and outstanding digital experiences. The Manager collaborates across campus to deliver strategic web projects that enhance reputation, support enrolment, and strengthen engagement with students, alumni, faculty, staff, and the broader community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive digital and website strategy aligned with institutional goals and brand standards.
  • Manage and mentor a team of three (two content specialists and a web developer) to deliver engaging, accessible, and user-focused content.
  • Oversee website operations, ensuring consistent messaging, strong UX, and adherence to accessibility and brand guidelines.
  • Track and analyze engagement and operational metrics to measure performance and guide continuous improvement.
  • Lead SEO and SEM initiatives to enhance search visibility and organic traffic.
  • Monitor digital trends, technologies, and audience feedback to inform innovation and strategy.
  • Collaborate with departments across campus to align web content with recruitment, advancement, and academic priorities.
  • Partner with social media and marketing colleagues to integrate web and digital communications efforts.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and agencies on specialized web and digital advertising projects.
  • Prepare reports and insights to inform decision-making and optimize digital engagement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, digital media, or a related field (master's degree an asset).
  • 5+ years of experience in digital communications, web management, or online marketing.
  • Proven leadership and team management experience.
  • Strong understanding of UX principles, analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics), and SEO best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent written, visual, and strategic communication skills.
  • Experience in higher education or a large, multi-stakeholder environment is an asset.
  • Proficiency with CMS platforms, HTML basics, and web accessibility standards.
