Job Description

What Is the Opportunity?

Are you passionate about building and operating enterprise-grade container platforms? Join the RBC Private Cloud OpenShift Platform Team in Technology & Operations, where you'll help deliver highly available hosting services for 1500+ internal applications. As an OpenShift Platform Engineer, you'll work with a team of dedicated professionals to ensure the stability, scalability, and security of RBC's OpenShift clusters, enabling our organization, supporting our employees, and empowering our clients every day.

In this role, you'll have the opportunity to apply Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles, drive automation, and promote best practices for platform operations. You'll collaborate with application teams, cloud engineers, and external partners (Red Hat) to solve challenging technical problems and deliver a world-class developer experience.

What Will You Do?

  • Build and Operate the OpenShift Platform: Deliver highly available, scalable, and resilient hosting services for RBC's internal development teams.

  • Apply SRE Concepts: Leverage automation to reduce toil, maintain low alert volume, and ensure platform reliability in alignment with strict SLOs.

  • Automate Platform Operations: Use Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible) and CI/CD tooling (Jenkins, Tekton, GitHub Actions) to automate cluster provisioning, upgrades, and configuration.

  • Monitor and Maintain System Health: Measure and monitor availability, latency, and overall system health using observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace).

  • Incident Response and Operational Excellence: Drive high standards around incident response, participate in Game Days and Chaos Engineering exercises, and maintain robust documentation and runbooks.

  • Collaborate and Mentor: Work with Cloud Adoption and Support teams to ensure efficient service delivery, provide guidance to application teams on cloud-native architecture, and mentor other engineers on platform technologies and processes.

  • Security and Compliance: Implement and enforce platform security guardrails, RBAC, and security context constraints in accordance with RBC's TSS standards.

  • Continuous Improvement: Review and refine platform practices, toolsets, and onboarding processes to drive improvement in customer experience and operational success.

What Do You Need to Succeed?

Must-have:

  • Hands-on experience with Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform (on-premise and/or cloud).

  • 5+ years in an operational role (Linux Admin, DevOps Engineer, SRE, or Software Engineer supporting production apps).

  • Experience with Kubernetes internals, cluster operations, and containerization technologies (Docker, CRI-O).

  • Infrastructure automation experience (Terraform, Ansible).

  • Proficiency in programming languages (Java, Python, Golang, .NET Core).

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and declarative management tools (Jenkins, Tekton, Helm, Kustomize, ArgoCD).

  • Strong understanding of platform observability and alerting (Prometheus, Grafana, PagerDuty).

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with distributed teams and external partners (Red Hat).

  • Experience with RBAC, security context constraints, and platform security best practices.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience developing platform tooling and APIs for migration and automation.

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid cloud environments.

  • Experience with operational/incident management tools (ServiceNow, DataDog).

  • Experience as a Linux system administrator (preferably RHEL).

  • Experience with Agile methodologies (SAFe, Kanban, Scrum).

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a team driving RBC's cloud transformation and platform modernization.

  • Work on cutting-edge OpenShift technologies and enterprise-scale solutions.

  • Collaborate with top engineers and architects, and learn from industry leaders.

  • Make a real impact on developer productivity, platform reliability, and customer experience.

  • If you're ready to accelerate your career as an OpenShift Platform Engineer and help shape the future of cloud at RBC, we'd love to hear from you!
