The Atlantic Pilotage Authority (APA) is a federal Crown corporation responsible for providing safe and efficient marine pilotage services in Atlantic Canada. Its operations are vital to Canada's marine supply chain, ensuring the safe movement of ships into and out of 21 ports across the region. Headquartered in Halifax, APA's fleet operations are a critical part of this network.
Meridia is excited to partner with Atlantic Pilotage Authority to recruit a Fleet Maintenance Coordinator to join their team in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
Role Description
Reporting to the Director, Fleet and Infrastructure, the Fleet Maintenance Coordinator is responsible for supporting APA's fleet operations through the effective planning, coordination, and oversight of maintenance programs. This role ensures the integrity of the Authority's planned maintenance system, coordinates technical projects, and provides logistical support for both planned and unplanned maintenance activities.
The Fleet Maintenance Coordinator works closely with crews, contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure maintenance activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable policies, regulations, and standards.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Administer APA's planned maintenance system (NS Enterprise), ensuring data accuracy and timely updates.
- Develop and implement preventative and corrective maintenance schedules.
- Coordinate maintenance activities to minimize service disruption.
- Liaise with internal crews and external contractors to align work plans and deliverables.
- Support planning and execution of dry-docks, refits, and major repair projects.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Prepare reports and documentation to support operational and regulatory needs.
- Manage procurement processes and supplier relationships in line with APA and federal standards.
- Maintain inventory records and support warehouse audits.
- On occasion travel to pilot boat sites and marine facilities to assess maintenance needs and maintain crew relationships.
Your Qualifications
The ideal candidate brings a strong background in maintenance planning or fleet operations, with experience in marine, industrial, or heavy-equipment environments. You are detail-oriented, organized, and capable of coordinating complex technical projects across multiple stakeholders. Success in this role requires sound judgment, strong communication skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Your qualifications include:
- Post-secondary education in business, supply chain, operations management, marine engineering technology, industrial maintenance, mechanical engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered, including Red Seal Trade Certification or Engineering Technologist/Technician designation.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in maintenance planning or fleet operations.
- Experience with CMMS platforms (e.g., NS Enterprise, SAP) is preferred but not required.
- Strong knowledge of maintenance planning, asset management, and procurement practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP systems.
- Valid driver's license.
- Certifications in project management, maintenance planning, or supply chain management are assets.
- Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
