The Opportunity
Department: Substation Operations
Reports To: Manager, Substation Operations
Location: Open to all locations in Nova Scotia
Employment Type: Full-Time
Closing Date: November 6, 2025
We are seeking an experienced Construction Supervisor to lead complex substation projects, including power transformer replacements, new substation construction, and specialized jobs requiring expert oversight. This role works closely with the Project Management Team and the Substation Operations Team to ensure there is strong technical oversight of our construction and maintenance activities.
Key elements of this role include:
- Act as the field liaison for the Project Management team, translating project plans into actionable site activities.
- Provide constructability reviews and practical input during planning and execution phases.
- Lead the execution of technically challenging or sensitive jobs that require precision, innovation, and an experienced point of view.
- As the successful applicant, you may be required to work throughout the province based on the business requirements.
- Troubleshoot field issues and adapt plans in real-time to maintain progress and quality.
- Oversee contractors and ensure compliance with scope, safety, and quality expectations.
- Review work plans, monitor progress and provide contractor performance feedback.
- Champion a strong safety culture across all job sites.
- Conduct daily safety briefings, enforce PPE and safe work practices, and ensure compliance with all regulatory and company safety standards.
- Collaborate with Health & Safety teams to proactively identify and mitigate risks.
These skills will make you successful:
To thrive in this role, you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and skills listed below:
- 5+ years of experience in substation construction or utility infrastructure projects.
- Journeyperson Electrician, Electrical Engineering Technologist or equivalent combined education and experience.
- Proven track record with transformer replacements and greenfield substation builds.
- Strong understanding of electrical safety, construction standards, and utility regulations.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing safety on active construction sites.
- Familiarity with GIS substations, protection & control systems, and commissioning processes.
- Substation retrofit experience
- Extensive knowledge of tap changers and effective methods of trouble shooting
- Transformer leak repair and working knowledge of oil degasification process.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various job sites.
