Saint John Energy is inviting applications for the role of Distribution Engineer until 2:00pm on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.

Critical Tasks

  • Monitors Asset Lifecycles and makes asset management recommendations based on risk.
  • Monitors enterprise asset management system performance and makes recommendations for improvements.
  • Environmental Management including ISO14001 EMS participation.
  • Prepares specifications, designs and contract documents.
  • Participate in feasibility studies on new emerging industry trends.
  • Design and Implementation of Asset Management plans for various critical Asset classes.
  • Continuing improvement of the asset health model involving consequence of failure, probability of failure and business risk.
  • Assist maintaining and developing Engineering, Asset Management and Construction Standards.
  • Prepares budgetary figures for planned projects.
  • Conducts system protection studies and the implementation of protection plans.
  • Prepares equipment specifications and contract documents.
  • Advises on the proper application of Saint John Energy policy with respect to customer equipment and construction.
  • Co-ordinates the procurement of materials and services required for distribution projects.
  • Co-ordinates construction projects with outside agencies.
  • Supports NERC Standard Reliability Compliance.
  • Performs SCADA mapping and programming for RTAC's.
  • Creates SCADA display's on SJE's ADMS system.
  • Designs, estimates and co-ordinates the construction or modification of distribution lines, substations, and street lighting projects.
  • Develops and maintains manuals and drawing records of distribution system equipment.
  • Responds to technical inquiries involving electrical assets from 3rd
  • Conduct Project Management activities.
  • Provide technical input into business case studies.
  • Contribute to business development initiatives and projects.
  • Lead Research and development projects

Working Conditions:

  • 40 Hours per week (8:00am - 5:00 pm)
  • Inside office and outside environment
  • Sitting and standing for moderate periods
  • Exposure to construction sites
  • Ability to physically implement distribution system designs.

Employment Requirements

  • University bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects to successful completions.
  • Results and detail oriented.
  • Must possess valid driver's licence
  • Must possess exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiar with the use of MS Office.
  • Willing to collaborate with staff.
  • Excellent time management /multi-tasking skills and ability to prioritize.
  • Supplemental courses in applied engineering, project management, finance, are an asset.
  • Possess a high level of business decorum and confidentiality.
  • Self-motivated, possess initiative, and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft, Office, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Passion for sustainability and a strong commitment to achieving net-zero emissions.
