Job Summary
The Laboratory Technologist I performs medical laboratory testing in the Core Lab, including Biochemistry, Haematology and Transfusion Medicine. Work includes performing routine and complex diagnostic testing on blood and other body fluids according to standard operating procedures in order to provide accurate and timely results; completing cross match in order to provide compatible blood and blood components for surgery, treatment and trauma situations; and performing other related duties as required.

Occasionally lifts and/or unload objects weighing up to 30 lbs.
Regularly stands or sits for extended periods, requiring constant repetitive movement of upper extremities and walking to deliver reports/results.
Visual and auditory concentration are constant and eye/hand coordination and higher than normal levels of attentiveness are required.
Job Qualifications
Graduation from a recognized (accredited) program with a diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or a degree in Medical Laboratory Science is required.
Current and continuing certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) as a general MLT or subject MLT in Biochemistry Haematology and Transfusion Services is required.*
Current and continuing registration with the NL Council of Health Professionals is required.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
*Laboratory Technologist I's in the Core Lab currently float between Biochemistry, Haematology and Transfusion Services.
** The successful applicant must be willing to complete at the first available opportunity refresher courses at the request of the employer.
