Reporting to the Director, Computer Services, the IT Desktop Support role is responsible for desktop support relating to the administrative computing needs of the faculty and staff of NSCAD University. This includes designing and implementing support and training programs, assisting with the procurement of computer hardware and software, and providing administrative support for the Computer Services Department.
- Support the University's administrative computing needs, including the installation of hardware and software on university-owned equipment for staff and faculty.
- Provide ongoing hardware support and desktop application support for administration on both Windows and MacOS operating systems.
- Develop and maintain procedures and documentation for end user training.
- Implement support systems and process improvements by assessing current situation, evaluating trends and anticipating requirements.
- Provide administrative support functions for Computer Services, including document management, purchasing and expense tracking.
- Provide back-up support to the Director, Computer Services and other department members as needed.
A Degree or Diploma in computer services and a minimum of 3 years of experience working in IT in a support role is required. A equivalent combination of education or experience may be considered. Knowledge of computer software and hardware in a mixed environment (MacOSX and Windows) is required. Basic networking for desktops, laptops and personal devices is required. Experience with minor computer maintenance, repairs and upgrades is considered an asset. Experience with data management, backup and archival processes is an asset.
