Job Summary
The Laboratory Technologist I performs medical laboratory testing in a core lab environment rotating through Biochemistry, Hematology/Coagulation, Transfusion Medicine, Microbiology, and Blood Collection/Specimen Procurement. Work includes, but is not limited to, performing automated and manual testing on various specimens; maintaining the integrity of the specimens through proper identification, handling, sorting, and storing of samples; reviewing patient reports and entering data; and operating and maintaining various automated instruments; and performing other related duties as required.

Occasionally lifts and/or unload objects weighing up to 30 lbs.
Regularly stands or sits for extended periods, requiring constant repetitive movement of upper extremities and walking to deliver reports/results.
Visual and auditory concentration are constant and eye/hand coordination and higher than normal levels of attentiveness are required.
Job Qualifications
Graduation from a recognized (accredited) program with a diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or a degree in Medical Laboratory Science is required.
Current and continuing certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) as a general MLT or applicable subject MLT is required.
Current and continuing registration with the NL Council of Health Professionals is required.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
